Traveling has been in my blood since I was a teenager. At that time, it meant simple road trips and family vacations. Later in life, we were business owners and blessed with many opportunities to travel to business conventions and meetings all over the country. That evolved into bigger and better trips as well as new experiences, including my favorite way to travel, cruises.
I am now a travel blogger and most of my days are full of exploring new places and things, sharing information with my readers, practicing my photography skills, meeting wonderful people, and planning more travels. It is sometimes all consuming; but when your passion is as high as mine, it is welcome. I share with you a list of 5 places I’ve been and 5 places I’m going. I would love to hear where you desire to go as well as places you have been that left an imprint on your heart and soul.
5 Places I’ve Been
Panama City, Panama– The metropolitan city that lies in Central America is where my husband and I go to enjoy city life when we are living part-time in Boquete, Panama. Panama City has a gorgeous and historic Old Town, fun casinos, upscale shopping, delicious restaurants, and amazing skyline with waterfront hotels. I like to be pampered at the Trump Hotel, even though the Marriott Hotel has a better location.
Lisbon, Portugal– Portugal is the most surprising country I have visited that I was absolutely bowled over with its beauty and awesomeness. Lisbon is a thriving metropolitan city as well as a place that holds many attractions, art and culture, as well as a hub for history buffs. The warm and welcoming people really set this country apart from other nearby countries. The April 25th suspension bridge is gorgeous!
Copenhagen, Denmark– All of Scandanavia, which includes Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, is breathtaking. Beautiful historic buildings, delightful museums, chic cafe’s, and lively canals lined with colorful rows of houses make this a tried and true destination I could repeat over and over again. Bonus, it is one of the happiest places in the world.
Basel, Switzerland– A charming city on the Rhine River between France and Germany that is flanked by a thriving downtown, interesting shops, gourmet restaurants, and beauty. I visited Basel after finishing up a Rhine River Cruise and loved everything I saw. Caution: Basel is very expensive.
Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy– Perched atop and spilling over the mountains on the gorgeous Amalfi Coast of Italy is stunning Positano. Vividly colored houses dot the landscape and appear to fall into the beautiful waters below. The Amalfi Coast is the most alluring town I have ever visited and a romantic place I want to visit again with my husband, Eddie. John Steinbeck once wrote “Positano bites deep” and he could not have said it better; its presence will forever be with you once you have seen this beauty up close and personal.
5 Places I’m Going
Istanbul, Turkey– In August, I am headed to check off one of my bucket list destinations, the magical city of Istanbul. Of course the Blue Mosque, Spice markets, and Hagia Sofia are the biggies, but I cannot wait to explore Eurasia by foot and boat, cramming in as many activities as possible.
Prague, Czech Republic–Prague is my top bucket list destination. Back when I first wanted to explore the area, it was not nearly as in high demand as it is now; but still, the Bohemian influence beckons to me. I wish to explore the historic and religious aspects of the city as well as the obvious beauty while visiting more fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Prague’s Old Town and Dancing House are my top things to see.
Reykjavík, Iceland– I am visiting there in September, thanks to the super cheap WOW airfare sale. Definitely a different European vacation than I normally take. I look forward to seeing the geysers, mountains, lighthouses, and eating fresh seafood every day. I am most anxious to soak in the geothermal springs and have a nice holiday with my hubby.
Kraków, Poland– I am fascinated by the beauty and the eeriness at the same time with this historic place. Several travel blogger friends have posted articles that gave me the desire to explore this city’s tragic past and optimistic future with some castles, appetizing food, and scenic churches along the way.
Montréal, Canada– A Canadian city that feels more like being in Europe with interesting art, buildings, cobblestone streets, cafe’s, and activities make me want to go explore this magnificent gem. I have made several friends living part-time in Boquete, who are originally from Montréal (and live there half of the year), so I am hoping to have them show me the ropes in this proud city.
So what do you think of the 5 places I’ve been and am going? Have you visited any of these? What is at the top of your bucket list?
