It was a lucky day when I saw a post on Facebook for free Broadway show tickets to social media fans with over 500 followers earlier this week. I followed the instructions given and scored two tickets for opening night of “Anything Goes”, the touring production at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, located in West Palm Beach, Florida.
It was our first time at the Kravis Center and we were pleasantly surprised to find they offer free parking in their garage. The Kravis Center is beautiful, stately, and has gorgeous scenery located all the way around. We were ushered to the “Tweet Suite” on the second floor where the theatre had provided drinks and snacks for us and given our tickets. In exchange for the tickets, we were asked to tweet about the show, nothing biased, but just that we were there and the run dates using special hashtags.
Even though our seats were balcony level, they offered great views of the stage. True playbills were given, high fives all the way around since I am a collector! The theatre itself is stunning and it’s furnishings, light fixtures, and decor were sparkling and rich. There are 2,195 seats so the crowds were large. The show began and we enjoyed singing our way through Cole Porter’s musical comedy. Anything Goes is based on two sets of unlikely couples trying to find true love on the open sea aboard the S.S.American. There are antics involving sailors, gangsters, disguise, and blackmail in order to align the stars as well as lots of laughs.
At the twenty minute intermission, we went back to the Tweet Suite to recharge and enjoy a few more snacks. Gin, the lady in charge of the giveaway, was very friendly, enthusiastic, and very proud of her venue. I liked her immediately. We took our seats after the lights dimmed and finished watching Anything Goes. If you have never seen the performance before, make sure you do not miss the Blow, Gabriel, Blow sequence shortly after the start of the second half. It is the best!
Having seen this performance on New York’s Broadway stage, with the likes of Joel Gray and Sutton Foster, I thought the touring production did a fine job of measuring up. They delivered a solid performance with lots of laughter and glamorous costumes. If you get the chance, I hope you will go see Anything Goes and I would love to hear your feedback. The performance runs through March 15th and Memphis runs April 7-12th.
Tip: It’s Delightful, It’s Delicious, It’s Delovely.
Fact: When I tell you how spectacular the Kravis Center is, consider it is $110 million dollars worth.
Fun Fact: Nearly 500,000 people attend events at the Kravis Center annually.
