My Vero Beach Book Club visits a different restaurant monthly to conduct our book review meeting. One of our monthly discussions was held at The Barefoot Cafe, a casual deli/sandwich shop located on 14th Avenue in downtown Vero Beach. Street parking is available for their breakfast and lunch dining options.
The Barefoot Cafe: Best Sandwich Shop in Vero Beach
The Barefoot Cafe has counter service, meaning you order at a counter and wait for your order. Take out orders are popular. Due to the fact that we had a large group, they offered us a small room in the hallway for privacy. Our food was delivered by a server, but we were responsible for getting our own refills and condiments.
Our group of twelve ladies tried a variety of salads (Sesame Seared Tuna and Chef Salads were popular choices) and sandwiches (Barefoot and Reuben Wraps to name a few). The Barefoot Cafe’s gorgeous salad options were plentiful and a nice healthy alternative. Many of the dressings were homemade. They were served in a clamshell type of dish that made it easy to eat without the ingredients splashing out all over the table. Sandwiches were prepared on fluffy grilled bread and piled high with quality meats and cheeses.
Side Items and Favorite Dishes
Other favorite things were the side dishes, including potato salad, cole slaw, and macaroni salad. All three were homemade. I thoroughly enjoyed The Barefoot Cafe’s macaroni salad, very sweet and creamy. Another side option was seasoned raw vegetables. The soup-of-the-day was also a big hit and it looked yummy. All of the food came out perfectly plated and everything met our expectations.
My favorite sandwich at The Barefoot Cafe is the Calienté, with blackened chicken, chipotle peppers, marinated onions and peppers, lettuce, tomato, pepper-jack cheese, and Calypso sauce. Yum…that sauce is spectacular and on the spicy sandwich, fantastic! Though I am not usually a big fan of sandwiches, this one is utterly impressive. The flavors were brilliant together. The Barefoot Cafe was very affordable, too, with my drink and sandwich coming in at $11.24.
The Barefoot Cafe also serves breakfast dishes such as bagel sandwiches and breakfast wraps. I would like to try the Honduran Baliada, which has roasted pork, refried black beans, cream cheese, avocado, salsa, and marinated onions. Yummy!
The Barefoot Cafe is a place to grab a quick sandwich or fresh salad with interesting ingredients. Food quality and taste of the food equally impressed me. The happy smiley faces that decorate their sign and walls, probably ate that Calienté sandwich and macaroni salad. I will be back.
