Why We Went: My Vero Beach Book Club visits a different restaurant monthly to conduct our meeting. This month, our choice was The Barefoot Cafe, a casual deli/sandwich shop located on 14th Avenue in downtown Vero Beach.
What We Had: Our group tried a variety of salads (Sesame seared tuna and Chef salads were popular choices) and sandwiches (Barefoot and Reuben Wraps to name a few). The soup-of-the-day was also a favorite. All of the food came out plated nicely and everything met our expectations.
Something Special: The salad options are plentiful and a healthy alternative. They were served in a clamshell type of container that made it easy to eat the without the ingredients falling out all over the table. Well done Barefoot Cafe.
Noteworthy: Barefoot Cafe’s macaroni salad is homemade, sweet, and delicious. Other choices for side items are potato salad, cole slaw, and seasoned raw vegetables.
Best Part of the Meal: The sandwiches were on grilled fluffy bread and had quality meats and cheeses. I ordered the Calienté, which featured blackened chicken, chipotle peppers, marinated onions & peppers, pepper-jack cheese, crisp lettuce, thick tomato slices, and calypso sauce. Though usually not a big fan of sandwiches, this one at the Barefoot Cafe was definitely impressive. I will order it again. The flavors were brilliant together!
Bonus: The Barefoot Cafe also serves breakfast dishes such as bagel sandwiches and many breakfast wraps. I would like to try the Honduran Baliada which has roast pork, refried black beans, cream cheese, avocado, salsa, and marinated onions. Yummy!
What Needs Improvement: I would recommend the restaurant to have a waitress taking orders for parties seated in the outside atrium room.
Total Check Before Tip: $11.24
