Broad Street Baking Company and Cafe
My husband (Blake) and I recently went to Broad Street Baking Company and Cafe for lunch. I cannot believe that it was my first time eating here since moving to Jackson, Mississippi. My food was wonderful and I cannot get over how large Broad Street’s menu is. Whether you live in or are just visiting Jackson, you definitely need to check this place out!
The Restaurant’s Story
Dan Blumenthal and Jeff Good opened Broad Street Baking Company and Cafe in 1998 to honor Dan’s grandfather, Sol. Sol’s parents were immigrants who came to the United States and settled in Trenton, New Jersey. From a young age, Sol was taught his father’s baking skills. In 1946, the family opened Blumenthal’s Bakery on Broad Street in Trenton where Sol and his wife worked for twenty years.
The restaurant’s focus is taking customers back to a time when everything was made from scratch. In fact, everything at Broad Street is made by hand, in house. You can definitely taste the difference!
Tons To Choose From
Broad Street has a huge menu. They serve salads, soup, gumbo, quiche, pasta, pizza, wraps, paninis, po-boys, sandwiches, kid’s items, plus beer and wine. You can even pick what bread you want your sandwich and panini made on.
Breakfast is available from 7AM-11AM and on Wednesday nights. The Buttermilk Chicken Biscuit sounds killer (spicy maple-glazed fried chicken filet served inside of a homemade biscuit).
Thursday is Burger Night at Broad Street. The restaurant features a different burger each week.
Broad Street offers daily specials: chef’s special, quiche, veggie quiche, chef’s side, and soup. The bakery also has special items every day: bread, dessert, and pastries. Check Broad Street’s website to learn more.
Need a King Cake? Broad Street is THE place for King Cakes, serving them January 6-February 28th for $24.95. Their King Cakes are made from brioche dough, cream cheese, and almond cream. I had a sample and it was hands down the best King Cake that I have ever had in my life. I am trying to make up an excuse to order a whole one. Receive 10% off of your order if you purchase 10 or more. Cakes can be shipped.
Broad Street offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner catering.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the restaurant.
I had the Chicken Parmesan (baked, breaded, and fried chicken breast topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella, served over penne Alfredo). It was awesome! My pasta came with a salad and slice of fresh baked bread. I loved the chicken and the Alfredo/tomato sauce combination. I finished my meal with an adorable Mardi Gras Sugar Cookie that was equally as delicious.
Blake opted for the Southwestern Turkey Wrap (honey-smoked turkey, Southwestern cream cheese spread, baby spinach, black bean salsa, and Havarti cheese in a flour tortilla). For his side, he chose the soup of the day, beef vegetable. Blake ended his lunch with a fruit danish. He raved about his entire meal!
Eat At Broad Street
As I said before, I cannot believe that this was my first time eating at Broad Street. My meal was great and I am still dreaming about my King Cake sample. I have a feeling that Blake and I will be back very soon. And we may even end up with a King Cake!
