The Crab Trap
Last week, two of my friends (Carly and Rachael) and I vacationed in Orange Beach, Alabama. Four beaches on the Gulf Coast make up the Orange Beach Area (OBA): Orange Beach, AL; Gulf Shores, AL; Fort Morgan, AL; and Perdido Key, FL. We were in the mood for some really good seafood and after looking online we decided on The Crab Trap. This was the best meal of our vacation!
Located on the Gulf of Mexico
We pulled into the parking lot and were surprised at how much parking was available. The Crab Trap is located right on the Gulf and they have a nice boardwalk leading down to the beach; this made for great pictures. The girls and I opted to get to The Crab Trap around 4:45 PM, before the crowds hit. The restaurant was decorated in typical Florida style decor and great views of the beach were plentiful. There was a large bar right inside of the door and a patio out back complete with picnic tables.
Carly, Rachael, and I could not have been more pleased with our dinner choices. Carly had the Chipotle Chicken Ranch Club (grilled chicken tenders, provolone cheese, and applewood smoked bacon on a brioche bun) which she said was, “delectable.” Rachael and I shared the Fried Popcorn Shrimp Trio and Hot Crab Dip. The Popcorn Shrimp was cooked perfectly and came with three sauces, Buffalo, Cocktail, and Ranch. Our Crab Dip was out of this world good (cream cheese, crab meat, basil, red peppers, and green onion served with pita chips). The pita chips were light and fluffy while the Crab Dip was incredibly flavorful and piping hot. This was by far the best thing that I had while at the beach. If it was not a four-hour drive to The Crab Trap, I would go there for dinner tonight just to have that Dip.
Perfect for Families
A large party of around 30 people walked in right before we left. The Crab Trap put them up in a wing of the restaurant and it seemed to happen seamlessly. They set up a children’s table complete with sand buckets so that the kids could go play in the sandpit and on the play set out back. I thought that this was a really nice gesture. I would suggest dinner at The Crab Trap for large families that vacation in OBA because they were definitely willing to work with big groups of people.
I will be back!
I cannot say enough good things about our visit to The Crab Trap. We had great service and the food was excellent. Plus, the views of the Gulf from the restaurant are spectacular. I give The Crab Trap a 10/10 and cannot wait to go back.
