Finding a good restaurant outside of Panama City, Panama is like finding a needle in a haystack. During my last visit to David, Panama’s second largest city, I discovered a jewel. Restaurante Cuatro is an upscale foodie’s restaurant serving local cuisine that has remarkably good service and impressive culinary creations. Prices are steep but the quality of the food is second to none. I recommend you give it a try.
Why We Went: Living in Boquete, we are often required to make shopping trips to David (a much bigger city) for a wider variety of items. My friends had been to Cuatro and were sure that I would like it. Ding-ding, good call!
What We Had: My husband and I were there for lunch so we both chose an appetizer and shared a chicken salad made from hydroponic lettuces with a sweet onion dressing and sprinkled with cashews. The salad was good but nothing mind-blowing.
Something Special: Crispy fresh vegetable chips and a flavorful avocado dip are complimentary for each guest.
Noteworthy: The fresh seafood spring rolls were cooked perfectly and paired with a habanero chili sweet & sour sauce. My husband loved them and they were not one bit greasy.
Best Part of the Restaurante Cuatro Meal:
My corn and Manchego cheese fritters were divine! A real foodie’s treat. Most importantly is that they were served over a bed of sweet tomato jam and shreds of pickled onions with micro greens that were enough to make your eyes roll in the back of your head. Nom!
What Needs Improvement: The variety of the menu could be a little less exotic. Also, more lunch sized portions would be a good addition.
Total Check Before Tip: $28.20
