Vicksburg, Mississippi is an adorable and historic place to visit. They have a nice downtown area full of boutique shopping plus several interesting eateries. During my visit, I asked some ladies in an apparel store where they would recommend for lunch and all of them picked KJ’s River Town Grille. I decided to take the locals’ recommendation and Taylor (my oldest daughter) and I proceeded to KJ’s.
KJ’s River Town Grille- A Local Favorite
Taylor chose the Fried Chicken Sandwich (cheese only) with Fries and I had the Pressed Shrimp Po’boy with Sweet Potato Fries. The Shrimp Po’boy was really good. There were plenty of battered and deep-fried shrimp on my sandwich that were cooked crispy, but not overdone. The soft bread was a great choice and the remoulade required a second helping because it was so delicious. My sweet potato fries tasted hand-cut, fresh, and were noteworthy.
KJ’s River Town Grill has plenty of seating and a lot to look at while you are waiting on your food, including original artwork on the walls. I liked the ambiance, though it was really dark with the low lighting and dark wood furniture and walls. Fresh flowers on the tables was a nice touch and looked lovely against the exposed brick walls. As for improvements, the service was definitely in distress.
Our waitress was extremely slow and she, nor the management, visited our table (or any others) as many of us had been waiting for around 50 minutes for our food. I felt really bad for the groups of people who had to get back to work as I am sure their lunch hour was far exceeded. Also, Taylor’s cheese only chicken sandwich came out with mayonnaise and pickles, which meant half of the sandwich was ruined for her.
