Oxford Grillehouse is a casual fine dining restaurant on the corner of the Oxford, Mississippi Square. It is hands down one of the best restaurants in town. Oxford Grillehouse tries to create an atmosphere that gives a “nod towards the past” and unique experience to guests. They are open six days a week (closed on Mondays) and serve brunch on Sundays. With their delicious food, it is easy to see why Oxford Grillehouse is one of the busiest restaurants in town.
Why We Went: I was in Oxford for my maid of honor Rachael’s birthday. We were joined by her friend, Hanna, and could think of no better place to have Rachael’s birthday brunch than Oxford Grillehouse.
What We Had: I opted for the chicken and waffle on a stick, served with maple syrup, while Hannah ordered the sausage and cream cheese casserole, and Rachael had the Chocolate chip waffle sticks. Most items on the menu allow guests to choose two sides with their meal. Other brunch options are eggs benedict, andouille and tomato gravy smothered biscuits, and the Southern favorite, shrimp and grits.
Something Special: Oxford Grillehouse has private rooms available which are remindful of prohibition days when people had to eat and drink in private. These rooms can be opened up to each other so that a large party can sit together.
Noteworthy: The Boom Boom Asian sweet chile sauce is awesome! There is a chicken sandwich with Boom Boom Sauce served during brunch while Boom Boom Shrimp are available for dinner. Gouda bacon macaroni balls are another noteworthy dinner appetizer.
And it keeps getting better…
Best Part of the Meal: Oxford Grillehouse describes their sides as “craveable” and I agree. Brunch sides include cheddar grits, parmesan french fries, smashed potatoes with gravy, turnip greens, as well as traditional staples such as bacon, eggs, and fruit. Dinner sides are even more mouthwatering, with choices such as chargrilled asparagus with béarnaise, sweet creamed spinach, black eyed pea jambalaya, smoked gouda mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes.
Bonus: There is a build your own Bloody Mary and Mimosa bar available on Sundays. Your server will bring you a glass with the alcohol in it, and you go and customize your drink. I think it is a great idea and seems to be very popular.
What Needs Improvement: The service at Oxford Grillehouse is hit or miss. Some servers are wonderful and go above and beyond to make sure that guests have a great experience, but others are just okay. Also, the seating is cramped, especially if you sit along the main aisle when the restaurant is busy.
