My friend, Lynne, and I were spending the day at the Hollywood Studios theme park, one of the four jewels in Disney World’s crown. We preferred a sit-down lunch experience rather than a kiosk or counter service. Lynn and I chose the 50’s Prime Time Cafe, because it is one of the most popular restaurants in the park and we love the nostalgic factor. Bonus, the 50’s Prime Time Cafe has amazing comfort food dishes.
What Should We Eat?
For lunch, I selected Dad’s Stuffed Pork Chop, filled with cranberries, apples, herbs, and Gouda cheese. The Pork Chop was served with roasted potatoes and carrots. Lynne strayed from her usual meal of the Old-Fashioned Pot Roast and chose Grandma’s Chicken Pot Pie, baked with a flaky top crust. My pork chop was moist, delicious, and perfectly stuffed. I felt the vegetables were not cooked quite enough, but they were flavorful. Lynne enjoyed her meal. Our portions were plentiful.
The 50’s Prime Time Cafe is decorated in retro decor so there are plenty of neat things to see as well as 1955’s prime-time black & white shows running continually on the antique televisions. The wait staff participates in friendly banter and reprimands you for having elbows on the table, not eating your vegetables, and things of that nature. It is all in good but be prepared for this.
The kitsch of the whole place will immediately transport you to a 1950’s family home complete with all the furnishings, dishes, and even “mom”. The menu is full of comfort foods and if you eat all your meal, you can get a “Clean Plate Club” sticker to commemorate your achievement.
Tables nearby us were indulging in milkshakes and they looked heavenly. The shakes were served rich and thick alongside the silver shaker containing the extra milkshake that the glass would not hold. They even have a PB&J milkshake. I will definitely try one next time. Please note, the lunch prices at 50’s Prime Time Cafe were very expensive.
