My daughter, Taylor, and boyfriend, Blake, have always raved about Georgia Blue, which has 4 locations in Mississippi (Hattiesburg, Flowood, Madison, and Brookhaven). We decided to have lunch at the Flowood location to have lunch which has a unique look to it with great curb appeal. The menu at Georgia Blue is sophisticated and even the most incriminating foodie would approve.
Why We Went: We were looking to have lunch in the Flowood neighborhood. Plus Taylor and Blake insisted that I try.
What We Had: Red beans and rice, chicken parmesan, and shrimp and grits. I will add that it was extremely hard to narrow down my choice; everything sounded delicious.
Something Special: Georgia Blue is tastefully decorated and highly colorful. They feature a blue plate lunch special, with menu items printed on license plates, Monday through Friday with all your country favorites (one entree plus two sides) for a reasonable price. This appeared to be popular with the guests.
Best Part of the Meal: The shrimp and grits were fantastic, topped with a corn cream sauce; however, there were only 6 shrimp for a hefty $19.99 price. Still, it was worth every bite! The red beans and rice were spot on as well and you could pay extra to add red onions, jalapeños, sour cream, and cheese, things I have never paired with red beans and rice but it sounded awesome. They both hit the mark for quality and taste.
Bonus: You get to keep the souvenir plastic cups!
What Needs Improvement: Our service was truly deplorable. The waitress took our order and 35 minutes later delivered the food, without returning to the table between times. I stopped her from delivering the chicken parmesan because the noodles were visibly crusty from sitting in the window as well as freezing cold. She did not speak a word to us nor offer any apologies but stormed away from the table. Minutes later, a fresh piping hot plate was delivered and she was rude the rest of the time. The Manager Jason came over to check on us and wanted to argue rather than just simply apologize for the lack of service provided by his staff, but he was friendly in doing so. I pointed out the small number of shrimp for the price as well as the cold chicken parmesan and his response was simply that these were gulf shrimp. So? In the end, the chicken parmesan was removed from our bill but I only knew this after reading the bill as neither the waitress nor manager bothered to tell us.
Total check before tip: $36.04 but that was without one food item.
My Rating Scale 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest): 9 1/2 (food) 3 (service)
