My husband and I always enjoy dining with friends at Il Pianista, located in the Alto Lina loop in Boquete, Panama. The atmosphere is one of a kind, service is better than usual Panamanian standards, and the food is always enjoyable. Il Pianista specializes in pizza, pasta, and their famous Sicilian tomato sauce. He and I often grab a pizza and calzones to go from their restaurant when we just want to chill at home.
Il Pianista is a romantic little stone restaurant decorated with heavy wood furniture. It has a gorgeous outside area along the back of the restaurant that is perfect for photo ops. Two waterfalls meet in this location and run by the restaurant in a stream. The sound is tranquil and that only adds to Il Pianista’s charm. Parking can be a bit tough so come early for a better spot.
We have eaten in their outdoor patio area in the past, which is surrounded with pretty plants and cacti. For this visit, we and our friends chose the cozy table for four by the back door. Here we were able to socialize without interrupting anyone.
The four of us began our evening with Italian beers, but be advised, they are $5 each. In a town where Panamanian beer is quite good and always under $2, that hefty price came as a shocker.
For starters, we ordered two salads to share, which were plenty. The salad’s zesty dressing and diced caramelized onions were a great addition. Our group ordered Il Pianista’s Linguine with Shrimp, Mushroom Ravioli, and I chose the Cannelloni with Ricotta Cheese.
Our meals arrived within 20-25 minutes, piping hot. Though they do not serve bread with the meals (strange for an Italian restaurant), the food was enjoyed and liked by all. The Cannelloni was filling and flavorful; perhaps one of the best meals I have had in Boquete. My friends Mushroom Ravioli, swimming in a cream sauce, was delicate and scrumptious.
We did not have any room for dessert so we concluded our evening. Our next visit will most definitely include dessert so that I can review it as well. In fact, we tried to go back on Wednesday, but totally forgot they are closed on that day.
My Rating Scale: 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest): 8
