Kata Restaurant and Lounge is an Asian restaurant in Vero Beach, Florida, that is a) close to my house and b) full of delicious entree choices. They specialize in Thai, Japanese, Sushi, and Vietnamese fare. I went to Kata with my family and we were received with gracious service and a comfortable table in the main dining room.
Kata has Bento Boxes!!
We typically go there to enjoy Bento boxes at lunch, but dinner gives us the excuse to share some appetizers and choose from mega dinner options. We began by ordering Spring Rolls, Pork Laab, and Curry Puff appetizers. On this visit, I chose a creamy Thai tea to drink. Our appetizers arrived hot and delicious. The Laab is fantastic at Kata and served with crisp lettuce leaves.
Dinners at Kata are reasonably priced, served with huge portions, and often big enough to share. Most of the dinners start with your choice of Miso soup or salad. The salad is topped with their homemade ginger dressing which is much different than those I have had at other Asian restaurants. It is very tangy, with lots of fresh ginger and what seems like big shreds of orange peel. I like it, but it is unusual.
For dinner, between the six of us, we tried the Chicken Teriyaki, Shrimp Tempura, Seafood Tempura, Chicken Massaman Curry, and the Garlic Chicken & Broccoli. Kata has every “roll”, imaginable on their menu, but nobody chose that option. All of our dinners came out looking beautiful. The tempura dishes were crispy, light, not one bit greasy, and they are paired by battered vegetable slices. The curry dish is simmered with big hunks of sweet potatoes, cashews, and onions. Sticky rice accompanied my meal. My daughters tried the Chicken Teriyaki, but were not very fond as it is much different than the kind they have been used to, with a thicker and richer tasting sauce.
Based on the food choices, great service, and prices, we will definitely be back to Kata.
