It seems that 1987 was not only a good year because I graduated high school, but also because Mustard’s Last Stand opened in Melbourne, Florida. With Chicago style dogs, clever and tasty combinations, and killer fries, it is no wonder this restaurant has been around all these years.

I first discovered Mustard’s Last Stand when my friend Ronda invited me. She told me it was a place we could take our dogs and sit outside to enjoy on their covered patio. We have not taken the pooches yet, but once I had my first bite, I was hooked.
Mustard’s is a small restaurant situated in the historic district of downtown Melbourne, Florida with a funky vibe, decorated in a wide variety of license plates and signed memorabilia from celebrities and rock stars. You order at the counter and they deliver your food once it is ready. Drinks are self-serve and they have an extensive beer selection as well.
Starting with the fries, the selection is huge and my favorites are the Island Fries, topped with melted cheddar cheese, 1000 island dressing, and grilled onions, as well as the Firecracker Fries, topped with cheese, sriracha, and fresh garlic. Fries come in two sizes, full and half orders.
All dogs are kosher, whole beef, and come served on a delicious poppy seed bun. Generally, I only enjoy a bite or two of bread but in this case, the bun is so delicious, it is nearly the star of the whole hot dog show. The list of options for your hotdog to be decked out with will intrigue you; sauerkraut, swiss cheese, and 1000 island (Reuben dog) and marinara, swiss, bacon, and parmesan (Joe Dogmaggio) are my favorites. Yes, you heard right, two crispy strips of bacon lying right on top of the marinara and holding the cheese in place. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Mustard’s Last Stand will substitute veggie or turkey dogs at no additional charge.
The menu offers chicken, sausages, and other sandwich choices as well as fish & chips and some seafood items. My daughter tried the mozzarella sticks and they were cooked to perfection, dusted with parmesan cheese, and served aside tasty marinara.
FYI- Military Mondays discount the entire check by 20% when you present your military ID. (dine in only)
FYI- Mustard’s has a drive thru.
