Why We Went: Since moving to Vero Beach, I have heard nothing but rave reviews of the Melody Inn restaurant, located in the heart of downtown. Think “fine dining, with a Swiss flair”. Upon discovering that they offered a discounted summer dinner meal, which allows you to pick between 7 entrees paired with 2 other courses, I went right away with my friend Lynne to treat myself to a fancy meal.
*** please note this restaurant is now closed for business.
What We Had: I chose the traditional beef stroganoff summer special while Lynne chose a German choice, Wienerschnitzel. We started our meal with beef carpaccio and the soup du jour, Mushroom with gruyere.
Something Special: The mushroom soup was absolutely lip-smacking delicious. The bowl was huge and I greedily ate every drop. The broth was delicate with a tangy bite to it. I do not think I have ever had anything like it so finding words to describe it escape me. The soup alone was worth the visit.
Noteworthy: Be sure to check out the wine selections; very impressive!
Bonus: My summer dinner special included a soup, house salad, glass of wine or soda, and entree for $23.75 (that is a lot of food for this price in Vero Beach), but after seeing my favorite food, beef carpaccio, on the appetizer menu, I had to try it. The carpaccio price was cheaper than average, while the flavorful and tender beef far greater than average. It was topped with olive oil, capers, fresh herbs, and Asiago cheese. Hats off to the chef as this was a fabulous dish!
What Needs Improvement: The red cabbage with red wine and apples was far too sweet for my liking. It was more like a dessert than a side item.
Next Time: Saving room for the bread pudding with Caribbean rum sauce.
Total Check Before Tip: $36.12
