One of the most sought after destinations in Boquete, Panama is the gated community of Valle Escondido. Luxury homes, townhouses, and a hotel are situated on the professionally landscaped grounds, anchored with a 9 hole golf course. The scenery is spectacular and second to none in Boquete. Sabor Escondido Restaurant is the on-site restaurant, under the direction of Chef Chris, that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.
What We Had: Both of us ordered the ham and cheese omelets with Ojaldas (Panamanian fry bread).
Something Special: The Ojaldas were perfect and fried just right, a little bit crunchy yet doughy, with a touch of salt.
Noteworthy: The view at Sabor Escondido is truly amazing. We chose a seat by the windows were we could watch the golfers and see the stream flowing by. Beautiful flowers, dozens of varieties, dotted the landscape and the sun was shining on the mountains in the background. This is a superb spot.
Best Part of the Meal: The omelets were really great. I typically find fault in ordering omelets that they are too eggy, overcooked, or do not have enough filling. These were generously packed with chunks of ham and a delicious white cheese.
Bonus: Join the mailing list for weekly and monthly specials. Sabor also has special occasion meals as well (Thanksgiving or Christmas).
What Needs Improvement: The servers knowledge of the English language is limited, so ordering was difficult for me since I do not know Spanish. It also took 15 minutes or more for our canned sodas to arrive and the coffee Delia ordered never came. They should also be proactive in providing butter, jelly, and other condiments that might be necessary for ones meal. The plates are typically decorated with a pretty flower or some kind of garnish, but our breakfast plate was plain and boring.
Total Check Before Tip: $19.90 (for 2 of us)
