It is nice that my town, Vero Beach, Florida, offers a wide array of ethnic foods. My latest find was Spiro’s Taverna Greek restaurant in downtown Vero. I went there for lunch with my husband, daughter, and son-in-law.
Satisfy Your Greek Cravings Right Here in Vero Beach
Located in the popular downtown part of Vero Beach, Florida is a tasty newer Greek restaurant, Spiro’s Taverna. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining options, a Florida must due to our warm year-round climate. Spiro’s Taverna’s menu had dozens of savory menu items to choose from, both Greek and otherwise. Friendly staff greeted us and exceeded all of our needs, without asking.
The lunch choices we selected from Spiro’s Taverna were the Chicken Gyro, Chicken Pita, Souvlaki Platter, and Greek Sampler Platter. Both platters came with a choice of Greek Salad or Lemon Soup. We chose one of each. My son-in-law thoroughly enjoyed the Lemon Soup, while my Greek Salad was basic but very tasty with their homemade dressing.
Spiro’s Chicken Gyro was served with a choice of fries or Greek Salad. The marinated pork on the Souvlaki platter was tender and very pungent, bursting with garlic and oregano. It was paired with sliced onion, tomatoes, peppers, zesty Tzatziki sauce, and soft pita triangles. We could not get enough of that creamy Tzatziki sauce!
Overload of Greek Goodness
Though I was not hungry enough to hold the entire Greek Sampler Platter, I wanted to have an assortment of things to write about so I “took one for the blog”. The plate holding the Greek Sampler Platter was filled with 2 huge slices of Spinach Pie, and smaller portions of Moussaka and Pastitsio. These are my favorite Greek dishes so this platter was ideal. The Moussaka was a yummy combination of roasted eggplant, tender beef, and potatoes, baked with rich Béchamel across the top. Pastitsio looks similar to Moussaka, but instead of eggplant and potatoes, it is layered with elbow macaroni. Layers of crispy phyllo dough baked around spinach and feta cheese made up the Spinach Pie. Delicious!
We were all fully satisfied with our meals and especially the service. I liked the fact that Spiro’s Taverna offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their breakfast options, such as the Gyro Omelet and Spinach & Feta Benedict, are interesting and much different from the typical choices we have in Vero Beach. Spiro’s Taverna serves both beer and wine, great to accompany an appetizing gyro. Be sure to save room for dessert…they feature more than 10 choices. Spiro’s is located in Palm City and Port St. Lucie as well.
