Lewisburg, West Virginia is home to many delicious restaurants. I appreciate that these restaurants offer so many unique choices and farm to table options. The Stardust Cafe is my favorite, convenient located in the heart of Lewisburg’s historic downtown. Their selection of gourmet salads and sandwiches is top notch, and has been since 2005.
The Stardust Cafe’s festive little eatery is not only adorable, but comfortable and hospitable as well. They always deliver great service, affordable menu items, and quality ingredients. During my recent West Virginia visit, I was anxious to take Blake, my soon to be son-in-law, there for lunch. My daughters, Taylor and Peyton, accompanied us.
We arrived at the Stardust Cafe for an early lunch and chose the table in front of the window. All of the menu options sounded fabulous, but we decided on the Sausage and Kraut Sandwich on Rye Bread, Mix and Match (yep, that is the real name of it!), and the Gullino Gooleenoh (chicken breast on ciabatta with tomato, onion, melted asiago, and pesto mayo). Due to an issue with an appliance, our meal took longer than normal to prepare. The chef so kindly sent us all huge, heaping bowls of the soup of the day, similar to a bouillabaisse. The flavor combinations were fabulous and the bowls had big chunky pieces of seafood in each bite. What a nice treat!
Our sandwiches arrived, looking more like art than food, and the efforts were appreciated. My sandwich, the Mix and Match, was glorious! Avocado, Chèvre, red onion, tomato, and bacon made for a great recipe and pairing of ingredients. I loved it and I am pretty sure that this sandwich will make my Top Eats of 2016 blog post! My meal came with a side of homemade penne pasta salad, too. There are a few things about the Stardust Cafe that I thing are worth mentioning. First, the cafe offers a large selection of wines, coffee, and unique drinks. I tried an Italian soda and found it both light and refreshing. Pair their coffee with a homemade pastry. A few of my favorite things throughout the restaurant include the fresh flowers, colorful plate wear and cloth napkins, and the elegantly written chalkboard menus.
Though we were too full for dessert, we could not pass up purchasing something from the cafe’s counter. I took a tall slice of Coconut Cake home to my mom; she gave it a thumbs up! Stardust Cafe remains my favorite choice due to its attentive servers, delicious eats, and laid-back atmosphere, all in an elegant setting. Have you eaten there yet?
