Melbourne, Florida is home to a great deal of really good restaurants. My favorite part to explore is East New Haven Street, right in the middle of the historic part of downtown. Shopping, a variety of restaurants, and bars rule the street. Though I am mostly a creature of habit, I like to step outside of my box from time to time and give new restaurants a try. Here is one example of me doing just that, dining at The Burger Place, and how it worked out for me.
Why I Went: I was in Melbourne at the awkward time between lunch and dinner, during which many local restaurants are closed. A burger sounded perfect and I had heard great things about The Burger Place in Melbourne’s historic downtown, specializing in American classics.
Something Special: The Burger Place has a list of free condiments to dress your ground beef burgers including onions (raw and grilled), pickles, sautéed mushrooms, and jalapeños. Veggie burgers, BLT’s, and chicken sandwiches are an option, too.
Noteworthy: My burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly to temperature.
Best Part of the Meal: The hand cut fries were awesome! Not one bit greasy and the perfect size; these fries go hand in hand with the burgers being served.
Bonus: The Burger Place has a friendly and hard-working staff plus they offers free soft drink refills. Craving something else to drink? They also have thick shakes and malts as well as a variety of beer. The Burger Place also has a 1950’s retro feel that enhances the nostalgia for its diners. Lastly, they have a nice outdoor patio for dining and enjoying the sites on East New Haven Avenue.
What Needs Improvement: The sweet tea was not nearly sweet enough to be “Southern” sweet tea.
Total Check Before Tip: $7.37
