Riverside Theatre of Vero Beach, Florida
When I moved to Florida several years ago, I could not wait to attend my first event at the Riverside Theatre. I had read about their events in local publications and knew attendees who just raved about the performances.
My first show was to see South Pacific, starring David Pittsinger as Emile de Becque and his talent and the show itself blew me away. Having been an NYC theatergoer for years, I was afraid I would miss being able to run to the latest shows, but between Riverside Theatre and other nearby theaters, such as Fort Lauderdale, it turns out I am completely satisfied.
Professional Theatre Shows (updated 7/6/18)
The Stark or Main Stage is where all the Broadway events take place. This 674 seat venue is comfortable and spacious, with plenty of leg room. I prefer to splurge for the orchestra seats, but the balcony seats also offer decent views for a much cheaper price.
Consider saving money by buying the season package which includes the four main shows. If you are looking for deals, volunteer at the theater and you can possibly see them all for free.
This 2018-19 season offers six performances:
- Smokey Joe’s Café Oct 23-Nov 11
- Evita Jan 8-27
- The Last Romance Feb 5-24
- My Fair Lady Mar 12-31
- Ghost Writer March 26- Apr 14
- Legally Blonde, The Musical April 16-May 5
Other Shows at Riverside Theatre
On the Waxlax Stage of the Riverside Theatre, come to experience the Comedy Zone performances at 7:30 or 9:30 PM show times. Howl at the Moon Experience is another fun way to spend the evening singing along with your favorite tunes, requests welcome. Riverside Theatre serves food and beverages tableside. The theater is a great thing to do on the weekend and brings in top-notch comedy acts.
The Riverside Children’s Theatre has many age appropriate performances and special events throughout the year. The Cat in the Hat (October and February), Lion King Kids (March and October), and Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas (December) are the 2018-19 season shows to watch for. The ones I’m most anxious for include Xanadu in January and Junie B. Jones, The Musical, in late March and April.
Other fun events at the Children’s Theatre include character breakfasts and breakfast with Santa. The Children’s Theatre also offers camps, classes, and training in theatre, dance, and music throughout the year.
Offerings Outside of the Theatre
If you are in the mood for some live music, visit the Outside Terrace, the free outdoor music venue featuring local bands and musicians beginning at 6:30 pm on nights when the Comedy Zone is running. Grilled specialties and desserts are available for purchase, as well as cocktails, wine, and beer.
Vero Beach is booming when the Riverside Theatre events are taking place. Besides the shows, consider the Lecturer Series, one of my favorite things to partake in. Two of my favorite lecture series guests were David Cameron and Christopher Hill.
Regardless of the show or activity you choose, prepare to be entertained.
