Best Restaurants in Boquete, Panama (By a Local)

If you are traveling to Boquete, Panama, you will want to check out some of these fantastic and decently priced restaurants. Fresh ingredients and a host of chef-inspired dishes are on the menu, along with your favorite comfort foods and trendy items. After living in Panama for eight years, these are some of the best restaurants in Boquete that I frequent and stand behind.

Sugar & Spice

This is “the” meeting place for breakfast in Boquete. Locals, tourists, business people, everyone eats at Sugar & Spice.  In addition to breakfast and lunch, they have fresh baked bread, pastries, cookies, muffins, and pies. Need a dessert for dinner guests? Sugar & Spice has a large variety of cakes and pies ready to go. Order the passion fruit pie (seasonal) to add a perfect addition to your dinner table.

Restaurant Olga’s

Restaurant Olga’s is a great “tipico” restaurant with affordable local pricing. They offer omelets for breakfast and typical Panamanian lunches, which includes meat, rice, and beans. Olga’s has the best Hojaldras (Panamanian Fry Bread) in Boquete. Try them with cinnamon and sugar.

RetroGusto Restaurant

RetroGusto Restaurant was Boquete’s first farm-to-table concept. They offer delicious Italian food such as ravioloni, oossobuco, and risotto, as well as brick-oven artisan pizzas. Check out the extensive beer and wine selection, too. RetroGusto is a must visit for exact consistency in presentation of the meals and food quality. You’ll want to visit regularly.

The Garden Restaurant

The Garden Restaurant and Country Store is quite a favorite spot in town. The Panamonte Inn

The Panamonte Hotel has been in business for over 100 years. You can dine in their formal dining room or in the Fireside Lounge, which is only open of the evening. Panamonte serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Experience white tablecloth dining in the evenings or chose a much more relaxed atmosphere in the lounge. Guests may order from the same menu at both areas for a delicious and tasty meal.

One of Boquete’s newest eateries, Butcher Chophouse, serves cooked-to-perfection steaks, burgers, and chops in an upscale setting with rustic decor. The tables share a view of the open kitchen as the food is prepared. An extensive selection of salts enhances your dinner plate, while a tantalizing menu of cocktails and beer enhance the whole experience. Los Molino’s Canyon Bar is only open two nights a week, but Friday at 5 PM is where to go for great happy hour prices and drinks. Canyon Bar’s beloved happy hour includes specially priced appetizers such as ceviche and the fantastic chicken tacos. Los Molino’s is a great place to meet other expats, and the unobstructed canyon views, often with waterfalls, are spectacular.

This is such an interesting round-up! I've never been to Panama, but there are definitely some foods on here that I would not have expected to find in Panama - like biscuits and gravy, and fish and chips! I love trying local, native food, but sometimes it's nice to have foods you're familiar with from back home. These all sound like great places!

Oh my goodness ... so many food choices! Anything fish has my attention ... locally caught even better. But what really made me sit up and go yum was the Hojaldras at Olga’s. You recommend trying it (ummm, it implies one and one would NOT be enough( with cinnamon and sugar. Is that powdered sugar? I'm thinking honey too. OK, now I am really hungry.

So much yummy food! There are two places that stood out to me. One, Sugar & Spice. I love that the bread is freshly baked and that you can take home pies! Two, Boulder 54. Not only did the food look fancy, but I am a huuuge fan of pork shoulder :)

A really nice selection of food places here. I would probably eat at Boulder 54 and the Butcher Chophouse. Love a great steak. Tre Scalini (3 little steps) would also be my choice, as I'm of Italian background. The spinach lasagne sounds yummy.
