Brandon is a great place to live right outside of Jackson, Mississippi. It’s home to some tasty places to eat as well as one half of Wherever I May Roam Blog. Since Taylor has lived there for four years, we’ve done our fair share of eating around town. Here is our list of the best restaurants in Brandon, Mississippi.
Genna Benna’s is hands-down the nicest restaurant in Brandon. It has a great vibe, chef-inspired dishes, live music on weekends, and a daily specialty pizza for $10.
Start your meal with the Crawfish Empanadas, a clever handheld appetizer bursting with zesty flavor and succulent seafood. My favorite dish at Genna Benna’s is the Seafood Pasta, with sautéed shrimp, crabmeat, onions, sun-dried tomatoes, and onions over a white wine cream sauce laden linguine. It is so delicious! My son-in-law raves over the Meatball Sandwich.
Owned by the same folks as Genna Benna’s, the GB Bakery is next door. The bakery serves homemade bread, coffee, breakfast items, and more.
While the Biscuit & Gravy reigns supreme in my book, the breakfast empanada is pretty darned tasty, too. Taylor likes the Blue Plate Breakfast, where you choose a bread (Cathead biscuit, waffle, or French toast) and three sides (eggs, hashbrown casserole, fruit, ham, sausage, bacon, cheese grits). Lunch is limited to a daily pizza and meal with assorted sides, but the coffee selections are immense. GB Bakery serves nitro cold brew, my favorite. You’ve got to try the Howlin’ Wulf Nitro with condensed milk. Mmm, mmm, good.
I first went to McClain Lodge to check out the produce selection and petting zoo, but found the restaurant to be the most impressive part of the property. McClain Lodge has a lunch buffet style dining option that is loaded with tasty items (salads, main courses, side dishes, veggies, soup, bread). Desserts and drinks are included in the price, too.
My favorite things on the buffet are the collard greens, green beans, sweet potato casserole, Mac and cheese, and smothered pork chops. You can definitely get your Southern food fix here!

Lost Pizza Company
Lost Pizza Company has exceptional pizza, delicious wings, and sizable subs made with the finest, freshest ingredients.
The Queso Dip, Garlic Bread Sticks (with cheese), Fried Ravioli with garlic ranch make great appetizers. We’ve tried almost all of the signature pizzas and Hector’s Taco Pie, The Hot Chick, and The Kujo are our favorites. You can also make your own pizza by choosing from a variety of toppings and sauces on thick or thin crust. We’re Lost Pizza thin crust fans all the way!
Fun Fact: Lost Pizza has been voted the best pizza in Mississippi for five years in a row by Mississippi Magazine.
McAlister’s Deli is a Mississippi favorite eatery with a huge menu and the best sweet tea in the south.
The most popular menu item at McAlister’s is the choose two. Combine any half salad, sandwich, spud, shareable, or cup of soup to create your ideal meal. The Nacho Basket, French Dip, Spud Max, and Spicy Southwest Chicken Sandwich are our go-tos. The mac & cheese and potato salad are great accompaniments to any full sandwich.
Newk’s Eatery is a Mississippi staple. Whether you go for the sandwiches, pizzas, or grab-and-go Chicken Salad, your meal is sure to be good. After ordering, head to the Round Table, where you get complimentary condiments for your dishes or just things to munch on, like bread sticks and good-quality olive oil.
We primarily visit Newk’s when Loaded Potato is on the daily soup menu. More of our favorite dishes include the Ultimate Salad, Newk’s Q Sandwich (with signature white BBQ sauce), and Veggie Pizza.
Fun Fact: Newk’s has raised over $1,000,000 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance since 2014.
