1. The Cleaners by Pizza Shack

Our top pick for the best restaurants in Brandon – The Cleaners by Pizza Shack! Prepare to be delighted by their mouthwatering pizza, filling gyros, crispy salads, and juicy wings. Immerse yourself in their charming retro two-story ambiance with a fabulous second-story outdoor patio.

Try the Athenos pizza, a personal favorite of mine. It’s a flavor explosion, loaded with gyro meat, feta cheese, onions, black olives, mozzarella, and artichoke hearts. Or perhaps the Diamond is more your speed, a compelling combo of bacon, Canadian bacon, and andouille sausage with a savory BBQ swirl.

But that’s not all – The Cleaners offers enticing daily specials you can’t resist. Treat yourself to two lunch specials on weekdays from 11 AM to 2 PM for just $10. Choose between a small one topping pizza or a gyro and fries with a drink. And there’s more – kids eat for free on Tuesday and offer half-price appetizers on Wednesday.

Here’s a fun fact: The Cleaners proudly features the first iPourIt self-serve beer wall in the state.

A fan favorite is the Newk’s Q, with chicken, bacon, white BBQ sauce, and Swiss, which can be enjoyed as a sandwich or pizza. For a truly satisfying experience, we recommend trying the Toasted Adult Grilled Cheese, the Green Goddess Salad, or the fabulous Southern Chicken Salad with grapes and pecans.

Pro Tip: Sign up for Newk’s rewards program to unlock exclusive perks and offers that will make your visits even more enjoyable.

3. Genna Benna’s

Located in the century-old Wierhouse on the vibrant square of Brandon, you’ll find Genna Benna’s, where good food and a Southern mood combine. Start your culinary journey with the irresistible Crawfish Empanadas, perfectly complemented by a queso and spicy ranch drizzle.

Regarding pasta dishes, Genna Benna’s has two standout options. The Seafood Pasta features succulent shrimp, lobster, and sun-dried tomatoes, while the Baked Chicken Parm, with Alfredo substituted for marinara, is a delightful twist on a classic.

Or, for a non-pasta dinner, try Genna Benna’s BBQ Shrimp and Grits or the Stockyards Angus Ribeye. Pair these delectable main courses with popular sides like brown butter mashed potatoes, turnip greens, green beans, or potato salad.

If you’re looking for an affordable lunch option, visit Genna Benna’s during weekdays to savor the tempting blue plate lunches for just $11. It’s the perfect way to treat yourself midday, but remember they are closed on Sundays.

After your meal, explore the hidden gem next door – The Gallows Bar. This speakeasy-style establishment is ideal for extending your evening and enjoying a specialty cocktail or two.

4. Burgers, Blues, Barbecue

Indulge in the delectable offerings of Burgers, Blues, Barbecue (B3) for the finest burgers in Brandon. This family-friendly restaurant has a killer menu and both indoor and outdoor seating. Treat yourself to a mouthwatering smash burger, hearty sandwich or wrap, refreshing salad, or delicious nachos. Blue plate specials are also available throughout the week for just $12.50.

Savor the renowned Dirty Bird – a combination of fried or grilled chicken, ham, pepper jack cheese, crispy bacon, and a generous drizzle of white BBQ sauce. The Nashville hot chicken tenders are an absolute must-try for those seeking a fiery kick.

The Brisket Nachos will surely exceed your expectations if you’re in the mood for a messy yet extraordinary treat.

I typically go for the pulled pork or smoked chicken plate, served with two sides of your choice (think creamy Mac & cheese, baked beans, steamed broccoli, coleslaw) and a freshly baked roll or cornbread muffin. The hand-cut fries are an absolute standout and an essential accompaniment to your meal. Check out the occasional live music, too.

5. El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant

El Potrillo is easily one of the best restaurants in Brandon and our favorite! Previously, we had to travel to the sister restaurant about 20 minutes away, but now we’re delighted to have this gem in our town. At El Potrillo, you’ll experience a friendly and inviting atmosphere perfect for the whole family.

Start with the queso, the absolute best cheese dip in town. It’s no wonder that the restaurant is always bustling, regardless of the time of day you visit. I also recommend trying El Potrillo’s bean and guacamole dips – both worth savoring.

For help deciding what to order, my go-to dishes are the chimichanga fajita and choripollo, with the best chorizo I’ve ever eaten. A side of rice and heart beans perfectly complements both.

Enjoy smaller portions and discounted menu items during lunch between 11 AM and 3 PM, Monday through Saturday. On weekends, you can hear live music and karaoke in the evening. El Portillo is closed on Sundays.

Combine any half salad, sandwich, spud, shareable, or cup of soup to create an ideal meal that suits your cravings. For sandwich lovers, try the BLT Avocado or the Spicy Southwest Chicken. Select the delightful pecanberry salad or a cup of mouthwatering chili to complete your Choose Two.

Vegetarians need not worry, as McAlister’s Deli offers plenty of delectable options to meet your needs. Treat yourself to a sweet finale by adding a Brookie or a classic chocolate chip cookie to your order.

Here’s a juicy tip: for just $6.99, you can get the tea pass. That means you can enjoy a tea of your choice every day for thirty consecutive days.

7. Jake’s, now Boo’s BBQ & Steaks

In the space formerly known as Jake’s is Boo’s BBQ & Steaks, which I have heard many great things about since their early summer opening. Touting themselves as “A remarkable balance of authentic Cajun and southern Americana recipes,” the burgers and steaks look and sound off the hook. The menu also features chicken sandwiches, Tex-Mex plates, and Po-Boys.

My son-in-law has already feasted on this beauty and hand-cut fries, but I’m saving myself for the Red Beans and Rice or Cajun Shrimp Pasta.

Boo’s BBQ & Steaks has a daily Blue Plate special, which you will find on their FB page, and yummy starters like Fried Mushrooms, Deviled Eggs, and Bang Bang Shrimp. Don’t fill up — the honey lavender cheesecake is a must!

Try the Sunday brunch from 10:30 AM to 2 PM.

8. Lost Pizza Company

Lost Pizza Company in Brandon is a fantastic spot for pizza. Their dough and sauces are made fresh daily, ensuring a delectable experience. The cheese is perfectly aged without preservatives or additives, while the produce is sliced fresh every morning.

For starters, try the Garlic Bread Sticks or Fried Raviolis (I’m addicted to these tasty bites) with garlic ranch.

We’ve personally tried almost all of Lost Pizza’s signature pies, and here are our absolute favorites: Hector’s Taco Pie, packed with beef, onions, salsa, and topped with lettuce and tomatoes; The Hot Chick, a ranch-based delight with grilled chicken, onions, and wing sauce; and The Kujo, a meat-lovers dream with black olives and mushrooms.

Lost Pizza offers wings, pasta, salads, and sandwiches if you’re not craving pizza. And for a taste of Mississippi’s favorite dishes, take advantage of their Delta Hot Tamales, served with crackers and hot sauce, or the Chicken Spaghetti, big enough for two meals. You won’t be disappointed!

9. Shaggy’s on the Rez

The Flowood side of Brandon is home to the absolute best seafood restaurant in town – Shaggy’s on the Rez. Prepare yourself for a delightful experience as you enter Shaggy’s vibrant, island-style atmosphere, overlooking the picturesque Ross Barnett Reservoir.

Shaggy’s menu is a true culinary adventure, offering a wide range of food and drink options. They’ve got everything from fresh salads, flatbreads, and hearty sandwiches to juicy burgers, tantalizing tacos, and delicious pasta dishes. And let’s not forget about the uber-fresh seafood platters.

Before diving into the main course, treat yourself to our favorite appetizers – the amazing Beach Balls and Seafood Fries. Picture this: fried mashed potatoes stuffed with cheese and bacon, served with ranch and queso. And don’t even get us started on the beer-battered fries smothered in lobster cheese sauce, topped with mouthwatering blackened shrimp. Yummy!

And here’s a little insider tip for shrimp lovers: try Shaggy’s peel-and-eat Royal Reds, perfectly paired with a homemade cocktail sauce. They are truly life-changing.

10. Bonfire Grill

Next on our list of best restaurants in Brandon is Bonfire Grill, an excellent place to eat Japanese and Thai food at affordable prices. They have everything from hibachi dinners to sushi rolls, Thai noodles, to fried rice. There are tables inside for dining in, but most of Bonfire Grill’s business is carried out.

11. McClain Resort

Who doesn’t love a good buffet? You can try one at McClain Resort, a gem nestled on the Flowood side of Brandon. This charming restaurant offers a diverse selection of freshly prepared Southern classics and staples. From mouthwatering collard greens and cooked cabbage to irresistible sweet potato casserole and mac and cheese, every dish on the buffet is a testament to Southern culinary mastery.

The buffet typically has an array of main courses, soup, five or more vegetable and starch dishes, a salad bar, a variety of breads, and an arsenal of desserts. Since COVID, the protocol is to pay as a counter service option, and then a server will clear your dishes. You can quench your thirst at the self-serve soft drink station.

Come early or stay after your meal to experience McClain’s Drive Thru Safari and Petting Zoo Walking Trail, which the whole family will love.

12. Brandon Donuts and Full Breakfast

This Shell gas station eatery may surprise you. We go there to Brandon Donuts for breakfast, mainly to bring home, and enjoy the made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, breakfast plates (reasonably priced), kolaches (even boudin, though the jalapeño sausage and cheese is my fave), and pastry selection.

Brandon Donuts also has sandwiches on the menu, such as BLT, Philly cheesesteak, California turkey club, and three kinds of burritos, burgers, and Po’boys.

Of course, as the name implies, they have donuts, many to choose from. My granddaughter thoroughly approves of this and hasn’t had one yet that she doesn’t like. Up early? This local spot opens at 4:30 AM.

Bonus: Bop’s Frozen Custard

The best place for dessert in town is Bop’s Frozen Custard. Bop’s makes sundaes, concretes, and shakes, all of which can be customized to your liking.

Fun Fact: Custard is an old-fashioned ice cream treat made with all-natural ingredients and no preservatives. It’s served at 26 degrees (compared to regular ice cream at 10 degrees), which allows you to get a “true taste” without freezing your taste buds.
