See A Race At Charlotte Motor Speedway

“Where Racing Lives” is Concord’s tagline, so it’s only fitting to kick off this article with Charlotte Motor Speedway. The huge motorsports complex is known as the “home track” for NASCAR and has the only all concrete, four-lane drag racing strip in the United States (ZMAX Dragway).

There is always something going on at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with more than 300 events taking place every year. Offerings include three NASCAR races (Coca-Cola 600, All-Star Race, Bank of America 500), World of Outlaws dirt racing, 4th of July Festival, Charlotte Auto Fair, quad racing, race trial runs, Monster Truck Bash, Pennzoil Auto Fair, National Hot Rod Association racing, and a huge drive-through light show (Carolina Christmas).

With Charlotte Motor Speedway’s commitment to the fan experience, you are sure to have a blast no matter what event you choose to attend.

Sample Locally Made Spirits

Southern Grace Distilleries creates “American Distilled Spirits meant to recapture the excellence of days gone by” combined with “soul and taste of the best of the south to craft distill very small batches of whiskey.” Produced in an old prison dorm from the 1920s, the production facility is referred to as the Whiskey Prison.

You can find Southern Grace Distilleries just 15-minutes from Concord, in Mount Pleasant. Trust me, this attraction is worth the drive. Take a Behind Bars Tour on Fridays and Saturdays or schedule your own private tour. Not a fan of whiskey? The Sun Dog Pink Lemonade and Apple Dumplin’ from Southern Grace may change your mind.

Note: Southern Grace Distilleries donates to local animal shelters, Military charities, breast cancer research, Habitat for Humanity, and firefighter organizations.

Visit The SEA LIFE Aquarium

Inside of Concord Mills is the SEA LIFE Charlotte-Concord Aquarium. This popular attraction is home to more than 5,000 sea creatures including Green Sea Turtles, Atlantic Rays, Blacktip Reef Sharks, Jellyfish, and Lionfish. Be sure to check out the Touchpool (where you can touch crabs, sea stars, and urchins), talk sessions, 360° ocean tunnel, and feeding demonstrations, all of which are included with your admission.

The SEA LIFE Aquarium focuses on conservation and what you can do to help protect sea life. Displays will show you how not recycling and using plastic straws are harmful to these animals, for example. You will definitely learn a thing or two during your visit! This is one of my favorite things to do in Concord, North Carolina.

Have A Beer At A Local Brewing Company

Concord is home to two local brewing companies: Cabarrus Brewing Co and High Branch Brewing Co.

The Cabarrus Brewing Co was the first full-scale craft brewery in the area. It strives to meld local history, character, and traditions with locally produced beer. The Cabarrus Brewing Co’s Tap Room is open seven days a week. Enjoy food from a local food truck while drinking your Ale, Stout, or IPA.

High Branch Brewing Co is a family-run artisanal brewery. The indoor/outdoor Tap Room is open Wednesday through Sunday. The Brewery sells snacks from a local farmer and cafe, or you can bring your own food.

Tip: Both tap rooms allow pets!
