Traverse City’s Wineries

Traverse City is a haven for wine lovers. With around 50 wineries, the region is celebrated for its exceptional vintages. The ones I have sampled, have been spectacular.

Mari Vineyards

At Mari Vineyards, a visit is more than just about savoring award-winning wines and soaking in the breathtaking views of East Grand Traverse Bay. It’s a unique educational journey where you can delve into the intricate wine-making process through a guided vineyard tour. See if you can get a selfie at the very Game of Throne-ish looking photo op.

Another gem in Traverse City’s wine scene is Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery. Renowned for its old-world charm, this family-owned estate boasts a cozy tasting room where you can indulge in a diverse array of wines, including their signature Pinot Noir and Riesling. And be sure to explore their Secret Garden, a stunning space brimming with lavender and seasonal flowers.

Beyond these standout wineries, the Traverse City wine trail offers many options. There’s something to suit every palate, from boutique wineries to larger estates. Each stop provides delightful wines, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. It’s an experience that’s as much about the journey as the destination.

Just a short drive from Traverse City lies the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, a natural wonder that stretches along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The towering dunes, some of which rise over 400 feet above the lake, offer awe-inspiring views and an array of outdoor activities.

Hiking and Scenic Drives

For those who love hiking, the park offers numerous trails that range from leisurely strolls to challenging climbs. The Dune Climb is a popular spot where you can trek up the steep slopes and be rewarded with panoramic views of the lake and surrounding forests.

If hiking isn’t your thing, the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive offers a fantastic alternative, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the dunes from the comfort of your car.

My friends and I had a spectacular dining experience, starting with a chilled shrimp cocktail (key lime mustard) and the Farm Board, and followed that up with a fabulous Chicken Kefta, Bucatini al Simone, and the Great Lakes Walleye. Save room for the incredible homemade desserts namely, the tremendous cheesecake.

Traverse City is fondly known as the Cherry Capital of the World, and no visit is truly complete without a stop at the delightful Cherry Republic. This charming store celebrates everything cherry, offering an incredible range of cherry-themed products, from jams and jellies to chocolates and sodas.

The products here are so irresistible that I often ship them home because I buy so many! The best part? You get free samples.
