Dig This! – A Playground for the Big Kid in You

We start our adventure with an experience that’s truly larger than life. ‘Dig This‘ is an attraction that lets you get behind the controls of a bulldozer or an excavator to have some real-life sandbox fun. It was a bit scary, but you follow the directions through a headset, and they’ve got your back.

Whether you’re a heavy equipment enthusiast or simply ready to try something delightfully different, Dig This is an experience like no other. I highly recommend it.

The Mob Museum – A Glimpse into Vegas’ Gangland Past

Take a break from the neon lights and experience the darker and more compelling chapters of Vegas history at The Mob Museum, easily one of the non-gaming wonders of Las Vegas. Housed in a former federal courthouse, this museum dives deep into the rise and fall of organized crime in America and its profound influence on the development of this iconic city.

While the artifacts and interactive exhibits offer a fascinating insight into a bygone era, the museum is also a testament to the resilience that transformed Vegas into the world-class destination it is today.

Bonus: The gift shop is fantastic, and you’ll see a Tony Soprano shirt there. Be sure to save time to enjoy prohibition-style cocktails at the Underground Speakeasy and Distillery.

Pro Tip: There is onsite parking at this museum.

The Fremont Street Experience – A Trip through Vegas’ Historical Core

When you crave nostalgia and an old-school Vegas experience, the Fremont Street Experience delivers and then some. It’s not just about the dazzling light show that spans the length of the pedestrian mall overhead; it’s about reliving the vintage Vegas atmosphere.

The area is lined with historical casinos, classic neon signs, and even the original Las Vegas gambling rooms that transport you to eras of glitz and glamour. Be prepared for scantily clad ladies and panhandlers of all types, but there is a police force on location. Still, watch for pickpockets, as always in a bustling city.

Selfies at the Sign – A Must-Do for Every Vegas Visitor

The famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign is more than just a city icon; it’s a rite of passage for every Vegas visitor. A perfect spot to create lasting memories, this iconic landmark is a testament to the spirit of festivity that embodies the soul of Sin City.

Be prepared to wait in line, but the selfie you’ll take here is a keeper. The sign is near The Strip’s end, past Mandalay Bay.

Venture Beyond Vegas with a Day Trip to Valley of Fire State Park

To escape the city’s frenetic pace, a day trip to the Valley of Fire State Park offers a breathtaking contrast. A mere hour’s drive from Vegas, the park’s striking red sandstone, rainbow rock formations, and petroglyph-laden landscapes make it a photographer’s paradise.

It’s a unique opportunity to witness the raw natural beauty that frames the edges of Las Vegas’ man-made wonderland, and it will only set you back $15 per car. You may recognize the landscape from the many car and truck commercials shot at Valley of Fire.

Pro Tip: Being a local, I rank this park even higher than Utah’s Big 5 unless you are a serious hiker.

Ethel M’s Chocolate Factory – Sweet Delights and Desert Serenity

Indulge your sweet tooth at Ethel M’s Chocolate Factory, where you can sample and purchase gourmet confections and experience the chocolate-making process firsthand. Visit their flagship location for the best experience.

Be sure to laze in the holiday splendor of the botanical cactus garden, a serene three-acre desert oasis. The surreal contrast of desert flora and the aroma of fresh chocolates is bound to engage all your senses.

My favorite garden design is during the Christmas holiday season. Didn’t get to it in person? Before heading home, pick up some of Ethel M’s delicious chocolates at the Harry Reid International Airport.

Want a dose of Old Vegas? Head a little over an hour north to Mesquite, where you’ll find an abundance of amazing outdoor scenery and attractions, three excellent casinos, and old-school prices.

Pinball Hall of Fame – A Gamer’s Paradise of the Silver Ball

Rekindle your love for the 20th-century arcade culture at the Pinball Hall of Fame, where you’ll find a veritable treasure trove of pinball machines and arcade games. Not only can you play on more than 200 machines dating as far back as the 1950s, but the proceeds from the games are donated to charity.

Raiders Allegiant Stadium – A Pilgrimage for Sports Enthusiasts

A mecca for football fans, the state-of-the-art Raiders Allegiant Stadium offers tours that provide an intimate look at the inner workings of a modern sports arena. I’m a football fan, so touring a stadium anywhere is high on my must-do list.

The Allegiant Stadium tour was good. Highlights were seeing the Al Davis Memorial Torch up close and personal. From VIP tours that include locker rooms and private lounges to championship tours that highlight the Raiders’ illustrious history, there’s plenty to choose from.

Even if you’re not here for a game, the stadium’s architectural marvel is worth the visit on its own.

Top-Billed Shows – The Best of Vegas Entertainment

Las Vegas’ entertainment repertoire extends far beyond the bells and whistles of slot machines. Catch a world-class concert by any of the numerous A-list performers who routinely grace Vegas stages, or immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring acrobatics and artistic mastery of a Cirque du Soleil production (KÀ & Mystère, an oldie but a goodie, are two of my faves).

You can check the current residencies at Billboard, which currently features Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Garth Brooks, and Carrie Underwood.

Zipline your Way through Vegas Skies

If you’re seeking an adrenaline rush without the risk factor of a poker table, look no further than Vegas’ ziplines. The FLY Linq Zipline offers a heart-pounding ride at 35 mph through the grandeur of The Strip, while the SlotZilla Zipline at the Fremont Street Experience lets you zip overhead the buzzing energy of downtown Vegas.

Both offer a unique perspective of the city that’s a literal high for thrill-seekers. Look up; there are just as many cool things in the Las Vegas skies as on the ground.

Venture to Famous Seven Magic Mountains

You know those colored rock formations you’ve seen online and in Nevada ads? They are only a 15-20-minute ride from Vegas, making them easy to see on your visit. Seven Magic Mountains is a free art installation with a parking lot suitable for an RV or camper.

Seven massive pillars of multi-colored rocks made it hard to miss this roadside attraction right off I-15. This roadside attraction has grown massively over the last couple of years, so know it will most likely be congested. Still, this is hands down one of the most extraordinary sights in Nevada.

The heart of the area boasts a massive treehouse with a 33-foot slide – a favorite among kids and adults alike. Afterward, grab a gourmet bite from one of the many artisanal food trucks and enjoy a leisurely family picnic.

Reach for the Sky at The Strat

For panoramic views that will truly take your breath away, head to The Strat, formerly known as the Stratosphere, and ascend to the tower’s observation deck or take a thrilling leap on one of its heart-racing rides.

The iconic tower looms over the Strip, offering a perfect vantage point for the city’s mesmerizing skyline. Thrill seekers can experience the ultimate thrill with rides like the SkyJump, a controlled descent from the stratosphere to the ground below, or the Insanity. This dizzying spinning experience dangles you over the tower’s edge.

Vegas Is Hotter Than Ever

Vegas may be the Entertainment Capital of the World, or the Epicenter as it is now being called, but its allure extends far beyond the rolling roulette wheels and flashing lights. These non-gaming activities are just a taste of the diverse experiences that await you in the shimmering oasis of the desert.

Whether you’re here for a family vacation, a romantic getaway, or a solo adventure, there’s always a way to have a great time in Las Vegas without ever setting foot in a casino, though I wouldn’t rule them out just yet.
