My Favorite Things to Do In The Hamptons
The Hamptons are a destination that attracts many people from many different walks of life and it is not a new thing. In fact, celebrities like John Newman were here in the 60s enjoying a truly great place to holiday. The reason for this is not such a secret, especially with the beautiful beaches, wineries, Hamptons house rentals and many other things to do and see. I love heading to the Hamptons and thought that it is about time that I made a little guide to enjoying it as much as possible.
Let’s get started.
Head to Cooper’s Beach
This main beach is home to everything you could ever need in Southhampton. The beach here is beautiful with white sand and crystal clear waters. It is the ideal place to sit and lounge for the day. Renting a chair or an umbrella is a surefire way to make the experience even more special.
Beware though, the parking fees were recently increased, so be sure to find another way to get to the beach! My tip is definitely making a day of it and riding a bike or walking to the beach if you can.
Enjoy Live Music at the Surf Lodge
The Surf Lodge is located in Montauk and is one of the premier live music locations in the Hamptons. There are a number of free concerts at various times of the year too, so there really isn’t any excuse not to go and have a look. If you are visiting for the day, you should check out the restaurant and try some of the amazingly fresh East Coast Oysters. One of the famous lobster rolls is also a great option and it won’t soon be forgotten.
Bask on Main Beach in East Hampton
This beach is well known as one of the best beaches in all of the United States, which is quite a feat in itself. The white sand of the beach is absolutely perfect and has just the right amount of crunch under your feet. The pavilion is a great place to sit under the wooden canopy and watch the water.
Again, just like Cooper’s Beach, parking fees have become rather expensive, so it’s best to find another way to get there. The best way is probably to rent a bike and cycle there, it’s also very refreshing to have a dip after you ride. It is also the perfect way to get more intimate with the local area.
Main Beach is definitely one of the places to rub shoulders with celebrities and you may be lucky to see a few enjoying the clean waters and white sand. This is the ultimate stamp of quality for such a beach, if it is good enough for the celebrities then it is surely a good sign, so don’t miss out on it.
Drink a Local Brew at Montauk Brewing Co.
There is nothing better than craft beer and probably no better place to enjoy it in Montauk, which is one of the best breweries in the Hamptons. I would highly recommend tasting a number of beers and there are a number of tasting trays available so you can try a little bit of each of the several amazing locally brewed beers. I personally love the Wave Chaser IPA or the Driftwood Ale, but if you are in Montauk in the Fall, you can even try the delicious Pumpkin Ale!
See Amazing Art History at Pollock-Krasner House and Studio
No visit to the Hamptons would be complete without visiting the home and studio of one of the most famous American artists of all time: Jackson Pollock. Let’s not forget his wife, Lee Krasner, who was an extremely accomplished artist in her own right too. The house is a display of how Pollock and Krasner lived and much of the original furniture has been preserved and kept. The barn is the interesting part, as it is where the couple built their studio and where some of the most famous American abstract art was produced. Although there is no artificial heat or light in the barn, Pollock worked tirelessly here and did so mostly on the floor!
Enjoy the Surf at Ditch Plains
Where there are good beaches, there is usually good surf to follow. Ditch Plains, in Montauk, does not disappoint at all. It is the ideal places for beginners to learn how to surf, but also has challenges for the more experienced surfer. If you prefer to stay on land, the beach is great to sit and relax on. You can also enjoy the rocky slopes of the hills in the area and of course, the amazing views from the cliffs.
Head to the Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack
Wine is a big selling point of Hamptons and there are a number of great places to try all the best local wines. Wölffer is perhaps the best of them and you will not be disappointed visiting this stunning 55-acre vineyard. Rosé is the drink of choice here, as is the case in all of the Hamptons wineries. As with any good winery, there is an excellent selection of cheeses and cured meats to go with the wine. The staff at the winery can give you the best tips for which wine pairs best with the deli specialities. Taking a tour of the grounds of the winery is also great and this truly is a beautiful part of the world!
