Fire and Ice at Blue Haven Resort: Providenciales Dining
Fire and Ice is the premier restaurant at the trendy boutique hotel, Blue Haven Resort, on the island of Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. It offers breakfast to hotel guests and at night Fire and Ice at Blue Haven Resort turns into a romantic and gorgeous dinner locale. White sheer curtains separate the tables while twinkle lights decorated the ceiling; together they create a magical setting.
Fire and Ice at Blue Haven Resort is definitely a place that you will want to take a date or celebrate a special occasion. The perfectly sat tables hold egg-shaped lights, fine china, and heavy cutlery. On the night that we were there, the lights were colored blue. Fire and Ice is still family friendly, even with its side of romance, and their menu is full of contemporary Mediterranean eats.
On our visit, the restaurant had just rolled out a new menu and my husband, Eddie, and I were fortunate enough to try their latest offering: the Tabletop Charcoal BBQ. The BBQ preparation took about 20 minutes to marinate the meats so we ordered the Serrano Ham and Manchego Cheese Tacos for our first course.
The taste of the tacos was good and the concept commendable; however, the sogginess of the “garlic bread” did not hit a home run with me. Thumbs up for using top quality cheese though. Next, our server brought us piping hot bread with a ramekin of roasted garlic in oil. We devoured it!
Setting Up Our Tabletop Grill
Our table was cleared and prepared for the Tabletop Charcoal BBQ. A small charcoal grill, using odorless charcoal, was brought to our table along with tongs and plates to use for preparation. Then, the mother of all meat platters made its way to the table decorated with meaty mushrooms. The meats we selected were the Wagyu (pronounced Wag-You) Beef Flank Steak, which is the hottest meat in the world, and Kurobuta Pork Tenderloin, marinated in a savory honey-orange sauce. Other barbecue choices were Duck Breast and New Zealand Lamb Cutlets.
The tabletop barbecue at Fire and Ice at Blue Haven Resort comes with unlimited waffle fries, which may have been double battered since they were so yummy and crispy, yet billowy. A serving of seasonal vegetables is also included. On this night, it was ribbon cut zucchini and yellow squash. Two sauces come alongside the meat and both were extremely flavorful though I never caught the names of them. Caution: even though the barbecue grill is odorless, it still smokes. I recommend sitting away from the wind before you begin.
A Culinary Treat
Our meal was decadent, and there was plenty of it. Eddie did the honors of grilling our food for us, two pieces of meat at a time. He even got creative and submerged our mushrooms in the roasted garlic & oil that was served with our bread at the beginning of the meal. It worked out nicely as it gave them a great depth of flavor.
The Wagyu beef, marinated in black pepper, was sheer perfection. It melted in my mouth and though usually a dipping sauce fan, I would not have altered the velvety flavor for anything. This beef at Fire and Ice was the best thing that I ate in Turks and Caicos. Our BBQ was a spectacular experience and I am so glad that we got to try it. Note: The BBQ is available for a minimum of two people.
For dessert, Eddie selected the Mango and Coconut Panna Cotta, which was plated aside a meringue topped with fresh mango. He and I both agreed that we loved the silky consistency of the dish. I chose the Creme Brûlée, which came to the table ignited. It was my first time seeing a dessert not flambéed at the table-side.
Even after the fire burned out, I couldn’t eat the dessert because the alcohol taste was still too overpowering. I think that perhaps the person responsible for adding the liquor added way too much. However, I did enjoy the tiny cookie that decorated the plate.
A Wonderful Night
Our night at Fire and Ice at Blue Haven Resort was spectacular in both the food quality and service. Our waitress, along with the other restaurant staff, made sure that we did not need for anything and that we were enjoying our meal all evening long. Other guests received the same prompt and excellent service. On a side note, I have never seen a manager work as hard as the one at Fire and Ice. He hustled and filled in doing whatever was necessary. It was awesome to witness.
Another unique offering at Fire and Ice is cataplana, a copper pot of seafood items served as a three-course meal family style.
