Jackson, Mississippi is proving to be a foodie’s wonderland and I am always finding unique dining experiences offering unforgettable food. The Char Restaurant, located in the Highland Village, trumped all of the others thus far with its chic decor and fabulous menu.
Our Visit to the Char Restaurant
I visited the Char Restaurant with my husband, daughter, and her boyfriend for lunch. They were on a bit of a wait, but that gave us time to admire the memorabilia and photographs in the lobby. I liked what I saw. We were seated and I immediately liked that the tables, even at lunchtime, were covered with white tablecloths. Our server arrived and was personable and friendly.
The Char menu listed so many delicious sounding plates that we all had a hard time selecting. We ended up choosing the Chicken Tenderloins, Steak and Bleu Salad, Ginger Peanut Chicken Salad, and Monday’s special, Beef Brisket, of which we scored the last one in the house. The side dishes included popular Southern items such as garlic cheddar stone grits, cornbread dressing, buttered apples, and butter beans. I was very tempted to order a plate of just side items.
We enjoyed tasty house bread with butter while waiting for our lunch to be served. Minutes later, our food arrived piping hot and everything was delivered at the same time, with no mistakes. Of course I would not expect any of those things at a restaurant of this caliber, but in the service world you can never be too sure.
Mouth-Watering Meal Presentations
Blake’s Beef Brisket was tender and saucy, accompanied with sweet potato fries and macaroni & cheese. Eddie’s salad included all of his favorite salad ingredients: chicken, carrots, peanuts, and toasted sesame seeds with a flavorful ginger-peanut dressing. Taylor love the chicken tenderloins! I liked the taste of my Black & Bleu Salad, though it could have had more Maytag bleu cheese. The raspberry vinaigrette was a perfect choice for the steak salad and the meat was cooked super tender.
Too Full for the Luscious Desserts
After devouring these huge plates of food, we could not begin to hold one of the Char’s tasty sounding desserts, such as the Pecan Caramel Butter Crunch or the Blueberry Bread Pudding. That will give me something to look forward to on our next visit, as well as trying out their brunch menu of Chicken & Waffles or Panéed Chicken Filet Pontalba. If you are in the Jackson area, I encourage you to check out the Char for yourself!
In conclusion, the Char Restaurant is a foodie’s dream destination with amazing food finds, professional service, and an upscale clientele. Char was a winner of the 2015 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
