Sebring, Florida, is in the state’s central part amid thousands of acres of orange groves, cows, and a world-class race track. Perhaps the biggest treasure of all in Sebring is Inn on the Lakes, a 155-room boutique hotel with exquisite attention to detail, chic decor, and a fantastic onsite restaurant. I was bowled over from my stay—twice! From the pictures along, you can see what makes Inn on the Lakes special and read on to know why I recommend staying there.
It Starts With Ownership
The owners of Inn on the Lakes have years of experience in the hotel field. Their expertise shows in the attention to detail and trained staff on the property. From the moment you arrive in the warm, welcoming lobby until you check out at the end of your stay, chances are, you’ll feel important and appreciated for your business.
After checking in, take a few minutes to enjoy the beautiful lobby, with several seating areas, perfect for social distancing. My favorite is the wicker chairs that face the ornate fireplace, but the brown couch and oversized chairs across from it are also great. A round glass top table with four highback chairs almost always had guests working puzzles, playing games, or enjoying a glass of wine on both visits.
Outside, Inn on the Lakes is a floral paradise, with vibrant, colorful blooms everywhere you look. Your senses are in for a real treat, from the potted plants around the pool to the lake-lined waterfront. Take a seat at the intimate seating areas on the patio, or relax and unwind in one of the rattan sun loungers alongside the pool. You may see Sebring residents zooming across the lake by boat to grab a pick-up order from the restaurant.
Beautiful Rooms And Suites
Nearly every chic and stylish room at Inn on the Lakes is different in some fashion, with unique fabrics for the bedding and bolster pillow and dreamy linens. On my first visit, I stayed in the tower suite with a lovely sitting area with chairs, a settee, and a coffee table with reading materials.
Fabric shades made it possible to darken the room, but the view of Little Lake Jackson outside of my window was so beautiful the thought never crossed my mind. In addition to the sitting area were a desk, microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker.
On my second stay, I ended up in a suite on the far end of the hotel, which overlooked the lake and hundreds of white shorebirds nesting and bathing below me. This room had a separate, spacious bedroom with a flat-screen TV and a gorgeous bathroom with elegant fixtures, an oversized shower, and a dressing area.
The main part of my suite held a wet bar, microwave, mini-fridge, and a darling breakfast nook overlooking the lake. There was even a bar area, complete with bar stools. Inn on the Lakes has too many stylish details to list separately, but the attractive lamps and end tables, wall decor, and hand-cut flowers are more than pleasing to the eye.
The Inn on the Lakes (IOTL) bathroom has a half-wall glass as the shower enclosure, enhancing the beautiful tile work. The bathroom toiletries smelled heavenly, and there was plenty of light and space for my make-up and hair products, not to mention an abundance of towels, too.
An Amazing Restaurant
Chicanes is IOTL’s onsite restaurant where you can enjoy lunch or dinner. They are responsible for the complimentary breakfast, as well. Chicanes is so elegant, and to go along with the beautiful setting is a romantic ambiance and terrific menu. Even the wine list and cocktail menu deserve some praise.
For lunch, feast on a gourmet burger, creative salad, or even shrimp cocktail. I recommend the juicy Blackened Chicken Sandwich with key lime mustard and French fries. At dinner, start with the delicious French Onion Soup, or a Chicanes signature dish, Rollovers, bite-size filet mignon with pepper jack cheese wrapped in bacon.
My two main course recommendations are pan-fried Grouper (with lemon compote butter) or an Angus steak with sautéed mushrooms. The restaurant serves high-end food presented with fantastic flair. Save room for a sweet serving of Bananas Foster or Key Lime Pie for dessert.
Chicanes employs professional staff who are excellent for making recommendations and helped me choose between the menu options I was debating. There was a certain sense of work pride in the staff that was noticeable. While the menu is fancy enough to be considered fine-dining, Chicanes relaxed feel makes it a comfortable dining option for anyone, including those with young children.
Noteworthy Service And Blooms
Inn on the Lakes prides itself on immaculate grounds, one of Florida’s prettiest, especially when everything is in bloom, and first-rate customer service.
I’m a sucker for fresh flowers, especially when there are dozens of varieties and in a plethora of colors. In an area past the pool is where the Inn on the Lakes gardeners work their magic. Pots of gorgeous blooms were overflowing around the swimming pool and restaurant patio. The vibrant displays carried throughout the hotel, in the rooms, and hidden in hard-to-spot places.
Inn on the Lakes has a casual feel but offers high-end hotel special features at affordable prices. Besides free parking and Wi-Fi, there are also three different breakfast options to choose from for breakfast. A lakefront swimming pool with quaint seating arrangements and lounges was a spectacular place to get lost in the tropical feel from all of the colorful blooms and mature trees.
Sebring And Nearby Area
The Inn on the Lakes Hotel is in Sebring, home to dozens of lakes, revered golf courses, and great local shopping and dining. I recommend visiting historic downtown Sebring, a handful of boutiques, a coffee shop, scenic murals, and a second-to-none craft soda and ice cream fountain. There are plenty of local dining choices, too, including Faded Bistro and Nutmeg’s Cafe, to name a few.
If golf brings you to Sebring, Inn on the Lakes has golf packages you can choose for a discounted game of golf and hotel stay when paired together.
Be sure to get outdoors and see Florida’s first state park, Highland Hammock, where towering cypress trees and cypress swamps will make your jaw drop in awe. Then, consider exploring the nearby towns of Lake Placid, home to Instagram-worthy murals that depict the town’s history, and Avon Park, with several noteworthy things to see and do, including the historic Jacaranda Hotel.
A Great Hotel To Indulge In
The Inn at the Lakes is the best Florida hotel I’ve stayed at in ages. I was incredibly impressed with the comfort, beauty, and service at the hotel and can’t wait to go back. If you are looking for a relaxing stay in a beautiful setting, Inn on the Lakes is worth visiting.
