Island View Cottages is easily the best-kept secret on Florida’s Treasure Coast. This one-of-a-kind boutique property boasts twelve cottages, professionally styled and inspired by famous artists and decorators. It is a great place to escape the daily grind, catch up with a friend or loved one, or provide an office-away-from-home with fantastic views and privacy. Whether you come for a few days, week, or a month, Island View Cottages has something special waiting for you in this hidden gem in Sebastian, Florida, a charming Central East Florida town.
About The Property
Island View Cottages is set amidst palm trees, vibrant blooming flowers, and even the occasional banana tree. It is steps away from the water with a private dock encouraging kayaking, fishing, and even a place to tie-up your boat should you bring one. Other features such as a hammock, roaring fire pit, and conversational seating areas entice you to relax, unwind, or engage in a small-group outing.
The social room (shown below) is another place where guests can escape. Grills are found in several areas, perfect for grilling a meal and saving money while being on the road. Picnic tables provide an excellent opportunity to dine outside and be socially distanced. The owners have covered every base to ensure that you have a memorable and pleasant stay.
Speaking of social distancing, Island View Cottages takes the threat of COVID very seriously and are taking every precaution. They are currently booking rooms with a 72-hour window from a previous stay, in which they receive an ozone/ultraviolet treatment. Measures are in place for touch-less check-in, and even the remotes are wrapped in sanitized plastic.
On my stay, a sealed bag of fresh bathroom linens and kitchen dish towels was in the kitchen, and yet another bag held new paper towels, toilet paper, and dish sponge. The innkeeper encouraged me to take the paper products upon checkout since they cannot be reused.
There are a few pet-friendly rooms at Island View Cottages, and there was even a set of dog bowls and towels (for keeping her feet clean) waiting for us. A designated pet area is marked, along with bags for cleaning up after your fur-babies and a special disposing can.
Professionally Decorated Rooms
As mentioned earlier, each cottage has a unique design theme in mind. The Island View Cottages website gives a virtual tour of each one, but I wanted to include my photos of several rooms to share some of the best features.
Cottage 12 (two-bedroom suite) has a full kitchen, cozy reading nook in front of the waterfront facing windows, and a six person table, perfect for playing games or having a celebration. The feminine peach-colored room is often used for brides, as this property is ideal for weddings. It can sleep six.
Cottage 2 (Dreamy Poetic Space) caught my eye with the watercolor accent pillows and artwork. In contrast, the incredible hand-painted mermaid picture in Cottage 9 (Siren’s Call), a cozy seating area, and pale blue coffee maker wowed me. The intricate pelican mural on the wall behind Cottage 3’s bed (Island Inspiration) was probably my favorite detail of all and paid homage to Pelican National Wildlife Refuge (the nation’s first) only a few minutes away. It is spacious and airy with a clean, crisp feel to it. The hand-written poem on the eat-in kitchen wall is spectacular!
Cottage 1 (Find Your Retreat) was the first one remodeled after the property changed hands two years ago, uses refurbished pieces from the original Ferndale Lodge into works of art and functioning accessories. The bathroom sink, shower waterfall design, and privacy headboard are unique features that make a real statement. I’ll leave the kid’s corner bunk beds to be a surprise–a very good one!
Cottage 4 (Sweet ReTreat) is a fun and whimsical offering with bursts of color, stunning dessert pictures (taken by the owners’ daughter), and creative light fixtures.
My Cottage #11
I stayed in Cottage 11 (Light and Elegant) designed by Page Franzel. I loved the chic, casual feel of it, and spent much time in the Florida-room where the cushioned wicker chair was so comfortable I didn’t want to leave. Vintage photos of Florida’s East Coast hung on the wall; a much-enjoyed trip down memory lane for me.
A small flat-screen TV hung on the wall, with a second, bigger one in the bedroom. As if everything about my Island View accommodations wasn’t upscale and modern enough, the fans and lights were controlled by remote.
The bedroom had appealing linens (Pittsburgh Steelers colors!), plenty of light, and trendy barn-doors with blinds for privacy and to darken the room. The queen bed and pillows were perfectly comfortable. There was plenty of storage space between a dresser and a small closet, perfect for the guests here who stay for weeks at a time.
The kitchen included a coffee maker, 3/4-size refrigerator, microwave, induction stove, and adorable kitchen table. There was even a little nook for my dog’s (Priscilla) dishes. A rack displaying the attractive pottery and plates was fashioned over the kitchen sink, optimizing space.
Island View Cottages had a few treats waiting for us on arrival, including a bottle of locally-made Natalie’s Orange Juice, bananas, freshly ground coffee, tea, and a portion of Crab E. Bill’s smoked Mahi Dip, a Florida staple. What a pleasant surprise!
Lastly, a spacious bathroom provided a walk-in glass rain shower and name brand PAYA toiletries. They even thought of the black washcloth for make-up removal, a thumbs up in my book.
Included in your stay at Island View Cottages is full use of the deck, pier, bicycles, and kayaks. The innkeeper so graciously helped me get my kayak down to the water’s edge, and I had a brilliant afternoon paddling the Indian River’s calm waters. Priscilla patiently awaited me from the comfort of the dock.
The cottages are on a back street in Sebastian, with not much traffic. It is a perfect place for a bike ride. It seemed the offerings and amenities just kept coming at this stellar property!
Free parking, high-speed internet, and access to books and games are also part of your stay.
The Perfect Escape in Central-East Florida
Island View Cottages is the cherry on top of a town I see growing by leaps and bounds. It won’t be long before Sebastian, Florida is a more commonly recognized name equal to its neighbors, Vero Beach, and Melbourne.
A few months ago I wrote a post about Top Things to Do in Sebastian because I am so fond of this town, and lo-and-behold, now I’ve found the perfect escape for making this a vacation destination, as well. I hope your stay at Island View Cottages will be as exceptional as mine was.
Thanks to the Island View Cottages owners for hosting my visit. As always, reviews and opinions are 100% mine and unbiased.
