Market Street Diner, Celebration, Florida
Why We Went: My friend, Hope, and I were visiting Celebration, Florida, and did window shopping (looking at the menus on display) to select the restaurant we thought looked most promising.
Market Street Diner won by a landslide with all of its interesting and comfort food choices.
**The restaurant changed its name to Market Street Diner (from cafe) since this original publication of Sept 2015.
What We Had: We both started with traditional diner offerings, a Chocolate Shake, and a Malt. Hope picked the Spaghetti with Meatballs; and after help from the waiter in narrowing down my five top choices, I chose the Market Street Diner’s Turkey Dinner entrée.
Something Special: The Turkey Dinner (or for lunch as in my case), featured three slices of fresh turkey breast atop two mounds of mashed potatoes with a light and tangy gravy, fresh vegetables, and a unique cornbread stuffing.
A side of mixed vegetables (zucchini, squash, and broccoli) were cooked in clarified butter and tasted fantastic. My lunch was a large portion with each item seasoned well and flavorful. The Apple-Cranberry Chutney was missing from the meal, which I wasn’t made aware of before ordering. They were out of it.
Noteworthy: Both the milkshake and malt were thick and creamy—well worth the splurge.
Best Part of the Meal: A reasonable charge of $2.99 could be added to an entree for a side salad or soup. The waiter recommended the Chili and what a treat- it was simply perfect, with a nice zing to it as well! The cup of chili came topped with sour cream, cheese, and scallions. Delectable! It would be great if Market Street Diner would share the recipe. (hint, hint!)
What Needs Improvement: If a restaurant is out of something, especially the chutney, which was my #1 reason for choosing my Turkey and Dressing lunch, they should notify the consumer prior to delivering the plate to their table.
Bonus: Market Street Diner is pet-friendly if you eat on the outdoor patio.
Total Check Before Tip: $46.83
