The ladies of my book club met at the Sumo House, Vero Beach, Florida, to discuss last months book. Our book club is assigned a monthly book to read and then meet to discuss it. Some of us are only in it for the food: we do not judge. I had wanted to try Sumo House as I had heard good things about the prices and food quality.
Tasty Asian Cuisine at Sumo House
My friends and I arrived at the Sumo House and were given a semi-private table to conduct our “business”. The waitress was friendly and attentive.
Sumo House has a Japanese Lunch Box and Thai lunch menu with the biggest sushi selection in Vero Beach. The menu is packed with many choices of Asian favorites and gives a nice description of the dishes offered. Sumo House also offers one of my favorite things: Bento boxes.
The lunch choices we made were: Chicken Teriyaki, Red Curry Chicken, Hot Curry Basil Chicken, Wahoo Miso Salad, and Salmon Roll.
Each lunch included Miso soup, a Thai spring roll, and steamed white rice. Brown rice could be substituted for an additional charge.
Our soups arrived first and though not usually something I really care for, I loved it. The richness of the broth was delicious. I enjoyed every last drop.
Our lunches arrived soon after and we dug right in. I’m a big fan of curry dishes so it is typical for me to have ordered the Red Chicken Curry. I hit the jackpot with this meal. It was rich and the spice level just right. The curry also had bamboo shoots, red pepper strips, and juicy pineapple chunks.
Rich and Dreamy Thai Dishes
The coconut milk and Thai curry paste base tasted perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed my entire meal at Sumo House. The spring roll & dipping sauce that was included with the lunches was also yummy.
Portion sizes were plentiful, though not wasteful. Everyone’s dishes looked wonderful as well. On my next visit, I may venture out and choose the Salmon Roll.
A member of our book club (the one that chose this venue) eats at Sumo House quite often and uses them for take-out as well. I brought home a menu and plan to try them out again in the near future. It appears that the restaurant also offers live music on the weekends.
I recommend visiting the Sumo House for of the quality and taste of the dishes, attentive service, and because it was the best lunch I have had in Vero Beach under $12. My entire bill for the lunch and a canned beverage was $10.12. That is a big thumbs up in my book.
