The picturesque peninsula west of Gulf Shores, Alabama, is referred to as Fort Morgan. It’s just as beautiful as the other Alabama Beaches but much quieter. Just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, this peaceful area offers its own attractions, restaurants, and lodging options. Here are five fun things to do in Fort Morgan, Alabama.
Some of my activities were sponsored by GSOBT or Beach Club Resort. As always, opinions and reviews are 100% my own and unbiased.
1. Stay At The Beach Club Resort & Spa
When it comes to lodging in Fort Morgan, Alabama, one property stands out from the rest: The Beach Club Resort & Spa.
The Beach Club is more than just a place to stay—it’s an entire resort experience. Designed around a village concept, everything your family needs for a vacation (restaurants, shopping, a spa, and more) can be found on-site. As a result, you can spend time creating happy memories together instead of spending your precious vacation time in the car.
In addition to the many amenities offered at The Beach Club (like outdoor pools, The Spa & Salon, beach chair rentals, tennis courts, a fitness center, and a walking trail), the resort offers activities for all ages. The weekly activities calendar includes everything from yoga and fitness classes to making shark tooth necklaces and sand art.
2. Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge
Fort Morgan’s Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge encompasses some of Alabama’s last remaining undisturbed coastal habitats. This natural oasis comprises 7000 acres of coastal land, ranging from changing beach dunes to rolling pine-oak woodlands.
Bon Secour’s four different trails offer the opportunity to take a walk, birdwatch, and enjoy the natural wonders of the Alabama Gulf Coast. You can also stop in the Visitor Center to learn about the local flora and fauna from the refuge’s staff and volunteers.

3. Eat At Sassy Bass Amazin’ Grill
Fort Morgan has several locally-owned Sassy Bass restaurants, each with a different theme, atmosphere, and menu. If you only have time to stop in one, make it the original location—Sassy Bass Amazin’ Grill. Serving up casual fun and coastal cuisine, the whole family will enjoy eating here.
While I recommend starting your meal with their signature Gouda Cheese Balls, Sassy Bass Amazin’ Grill is famous for their char-broiled oysters, which come straight from Navy Cove Oysters just two miles down the road.

4. Have A Spa Treatment At The Beach Club
Even if you decide not to stay at The Beach Club, you should absolutely still visit their spa! Spectrum Resorts manages the Spa at The Beach Club and offers a full-service experience. They can do everything from hairstyles to pedicures to massages to facials. Be sure to arrive early for your appointment to enjoy a mimosa in the relaxation room.
On this list of fun things to do in Fort Morgan, Alabama, this is definitely my favorite!
5. Explore Fort Morgan
Of course, exploring Fort Morgan is on our list of fun things to do in Fort Morgan! Since 1834, Fort Morgan has stood as the guardian of Mobile Bay. This military site and National Historic Landmark were used throughout the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II. Today, you can visit the fort and onsite museum to learn about its role in American history.
Fun Fact: Fort Morgan is a Globally Important Bird Area designated by the American Bird Conservancy.
