9 Valentine’s Day Travel Ideas Worth Falling For
Valentine’s Day is still one of my favorite excuses to travel—whether that means a cozy boutique hotel, a quirky small town, or a destination that delivers great food, culture, and just enough romance. The idea of a “perfect” Valentine’s trip looks different for everyone, and that’s exactly why I love this list.

I’ve refreshed and reordered these destinations to keep them relevant, realistic, and experience-forward. Some are romantic classics, while others are quirky or adventurous; however, all are places where memories are easy to make.
Here are 9 Valentine’s Day travel ideas across the U.S., perfect for couples who want something a little more meaningful than dinner reservations at home.

Table of Contents
1. Washington, DC
History, walkability, and endless culture make DC an unexpectedly romantic Valentine’s destination. Stay at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City for polished comfort with easy access to the city. Spend your days exploring Smithsonian museums, strolling the National Mall, or getting playful at the International Spy Museum.
For food, grab a table at Martin’s Tavern in Georgetown—where JFK proposed to Jackie O—or head to The Wharf for waterfront dining, cocktails, and evening views. A most indulgent breakfast or brunch can be found at Green Pig Bistro in Arlington.

2. Anaheim, California
If shared nostalgia is your love language, Anaheim delivers. A stay near Disneyland Resort brings fireworks, late-night rides, and pure escapism. For a more budget-friendly option, Chase Suite Hotels Brea offers space, comfort, and value.
Split your time between Disneyland Park and California Adventure, then venture beyond the parks for Italian comfort food at Alza Osteria or an upscale dinner at The RANCH Restaurant & Saloon.

3. French Lick, Indiana
French Lick is all about old-world elegance and slow romance. The French Lick Springs Hotel and West Baden Springs Hotel feel like destinations in themselves. Book a couples massage, soak in Pluto Mineral Springs, or sip local wine at Patoka Lake Winery.
For something unique, ride the French Lick Scenic Railway (they have a Chocolate Tasting Train and Wine Tasting Excursion), then enjoy a memorable dinner at 1875: The Steakhouse or Sinclair’s Restaurant.

4. Manitou Springs, Colorado
At the foot of Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs blends mountain adventure with cozy charm. Stay at The Cliff House at Pikes Peak for views and classic elegance. Spend the day driving the Pikes Peak Highway, exploring downtown shops, or booking a pink Jeep tour.
Dinner options range from the refined Briarhurst Manor Estate to chocolate fondue at Mona Lisa Fondue Restaurant—both perfect for Valentine’s Day. Late-night options include Lulu’s Downstairs, in the vibrant Greenlight District.

5. Shreveport & Bossier City, Louisiana
This duo offers Southern hospitality with a playful edge. Book a stay at Margaritaville Resort Casino for river views, gaming, and entertainment. Shop the Louisiana Boardwalk, explore the Red River National Wildlife Refuge, or catch live racing at Louisiana Downs.
For food, try Mabry House for refined Southern dining or Ralph & Kacoo’s for Cajun seafood. And yes—grab a drive-thru daiquiri. Peach is always a solid choice. Fancy pie instead? The strawberry pie is a star at Strawn’s Eat Shop.

6. Huntsville, Alabama
Huntsville surprises in the best way. Stay at 106 Jefferson for upscale comfort right in the heart of downtown. Spend your days at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville Botanical Garden, or wandering Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment. Late nights can be spent hearing live music at the iconic Von Braun Center at Probst Arena.
The food and drink scene shines here—Cotton Row, Big Spring Café, Straight to Ale, and Phat Sammy’s all deserve a spot on your itinerary. Still want more? Stroll around Campus 805, chock full of breweries, murals, shops, and fun.

7. Winslow, Arizona
Winslow is perfect for couples who love Americana with a side of soul. La Posada Hotel is the star here—a beautifully restored Fred Harvey property with character, art, and incredible dining at The Turquoise Room. A few of the special touches include Ponderosa pine beds, handwoven Zapotec rugs, and Talavera tile mirrors.
Visit Standing on the Corner Park (from the Eagles’ iconic “Take it Easy” song), explore Homolovi Ruins State Park, or make a day trip to the Petrified Forest National Park or Meteor Crater Visitor Center.

8. Tonopah, Nevada
For couples who like their romance a little unconventional, Tonopah delivers. Stay at the historic Mizpah Hotel, known for its vintage charm and ghostly lore. Explore the Tonopah Historic Mining Park, visit the Clown Motel, or simply stargaze under some of the darkest skies in the country.
Dinner at the Jack Dempsey Room is a must, especially for steak lovers.

9. Roswell, New Mexico
If quirky is your thing, Roswell is a Valentine’s win. Dive into UFO lore at the International UFO Museum, wander downtown shops, and snap photos at the Flying Saucer McDonald’s. Pull the RV out of storage and overnight at Red Barn RV Park, where you’ll find all the desired amenities and breathtaking sunsets.
Fuel up at the Cowboy Café for breakfast or enjoy standout Mexican cuisine at La Gran Victoria. It’s playful, unexpected, and perfect for couples who don’t take themselves too seriously.

Staying In Can Be Just as Sweet
Of course, not every Valentine’s Day calls for a suitcase. If you’re craving something delicious and indulgent for your special someone, a cozy night in can be just as meaningful. My granddaughter, Dexter (my Cavalier), and I are planning a relaxed evening filled with movies, puzzles, and plenty of sweet treats—no reservations, no rush, just quality time.

We’re elevating movie night with the Cinematic Love gift box by Sugar Plum Chocolates, a Valentine’s movie-night themed collection of handcrafted chocolates and nostalgic, cinematic-inspired treats. It’s incredibly cute and perfect for a night focused on comfort, connection, and sharing something special.
Whether you’re craving luxury, adventure, nostalgia, or something delightfully offbeat, these Valentine’s Day destinations prove that romance isn’t one-size-fits-all. Pack the bags, plan the trip, and let the memories do the rest.
