Florida Caverns State Park: Underground Wonders & Above-Ground Adventures

Florida Caverns State Park: Underground Wonders & Above-Ground Adventures

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Northwest Florida, just off I-10 in Marianna, lies a natural wonder that feels like stepping into another world—Florida Caverns State Park. This hidden gem is calling your name if you’re craving an outdoor escape that blends geological beauty, fascinating history, and family-friendly fun.

Step Inside Florida’s Only Air-Filled Cave Tour

The world above fades away as you descend into the caverns on a guided tour. Suddenly, you’re surrounded by cool air, softly lit passageways, and rock formations shaped over millions of years. Stalactites dangle like chandeliers, while stalagmites rise like ancient sculptures from the cavern floor.

Some rooms shimmer with shallow pools, reflecting delicate mineral drips from above. It’s a surreal, almost magical experience.

You’ll hear how these caverns were once submerged under an ancient sea, leaving behind limestone walls etched with time. Your guide will point out curious cave residents like bats, cave crickets, blind crayfish, and mice. Don’t worry—they’re more shy than spooky.

The cave stays a pleasant 65°F year-round, so bring a light jacket and wear sturdy shoes—there are steps and a few damp spots along the way.

Not up for walking the caves? The Visitor Center offers a fantastic interactive audiovisual tour that brings the underground to life without the stairs.
