Where to Stay: Variety of Lodging Choices
When it comes to where to stay in on your New River Gorge getaway, there are plenty of options that cater to different budgets and group sizes. Our top recommendation is Adventures on the Gorge, a premier outdoor resort that offers cabins, campsites, and various outdoor activities.

The comfortable deluxe and hotel-style cabins (loft and rustic), on the rim of the National Park, range from one to six bedrooms and feature cozy furnishings, kitchenettes or full kitchens, and outdoor decks with breathtaking views. I stayed at Sunnysides, duplex style cabins in the forest, with 2 queen beds.
Features include a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and spacious bathroom, with a heated towel rack, I might add. Cabins also have a fire ring, cable TV, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The Adventures on the Gorge campground has over 200 sites, offering both RV hookups and tent camping options, including glamping tent platforms. You’ll also find a host of boujee vacation homes in their portfolio. Save enough energy to enjoy a classic campfire.

Guests of the property use this simple wristband as their door key and for charging privileges. Convenient, huh?

Where to Eat on Your New River Gorge Getaway
Adventures on the Gorge doesn’t disappoint when it comes to dining options. The resort features three restaurants, ranging from casual to upscale dining experiences. For a laid-back atmosphere, try Smokey’s On the Gorge, their signature restaurant that serves up excellent barbecue and mouthwatering burgers.
Sunday brunch is served from 10 AM to 2 PM. Menu items run the gamut from Pear & Brie Flatbread, Cast Iron Omelets, and Corned Beef Hash to Smokey’s Signature Banana (and bourbon) Bread Pudding.

If you’re looking for a more refined dining setting, try Chetty’s Pub, which features classic American dishes, craft beer, and cocktails. The Fried Pepperoni Rolls sound off the hook! Monday through Friday, 6 to 8 PM, brings live musical entertainment. Chetty’s Pub is closed on Sundays.

Also at Adventures on the Gorge is Sweet Java Falls Cafe, where you’ll find some grab & go items , shaken iced teas, and coffee drinks. Try the locally-made Neighborhood Kombuchery drinks for something unique. Cafe hours are 7 AM to 6 PM.

Area restaurants include Pies and Pints, Cathedral Cafe, and Tudor’s Biscuit World, which are some of our favorites. These are all located in Fayetteville, just a few minutes away, where you’ll also find eclectic shopping and a charming landscape.

Pro Tip: Venture just a hop, skip, and jump from Adventures on the Gorge to the closest provisions for all your travel needs. Swiftwater General Store has groceries, ice, camping supplies, firewood, beverages (including alcoholic), and souvenirs. They also have a cute little cafe.

Adventure on the Gorge Amenities
Outdoor enthusiasts will love the resort’s 350-acres and wide range of amenities, such as the 3,000 sq-ft Canyon Falls Swimming Pool, a kiddie waterpark, fitness center, a full-service day spa, and even gravity ziplines (one of the nation’s longest!).
Other popular outdoor options include TimberTrek, Bridge Walk, TreeTops Tour, and mountain biking.

There are also two onsite stores offering supplies, sundries, and souvenirs for your New River Gorge getaway. The t-shirt selection is top notch! With so much to do, guests can spend their entire stay at the resort or venture out to nearby attractions.

What to Do at the New River Gorge
One of the top activities in the New River Gorge is Class V whitewater rafting, and Adventures on the Gorge is the perfect starting point. The resort offers several guided rafting tours, from beginner-friendly trips for families to challenging paddling experiences for seasoned rafters. With stunning scenery and heart-racing rapids, it’s an adventure you won’t soon forget.

Apart from rafting, there are plenty of other outdoor activities in the area. The New River Gorge National Park offers hiking trails for all levels of fitness, with stunning views of the rugged landscapes and the canyon below. Rock climbing enthusiasts will also be thrilled to know that the area boasts over 1,400 established climbing routes.
Other popular outdoor activities include fishing, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
Where to Take Instagram-Worthy Photos
Nature lovers will be spoiled for choice when it comes to capturing awe-inspiring views in the New River Gorge. The best time for photos is during the fall, when the surrounding forests transform into a vibrant tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows. Here are some of our top picks for Instagrammable spots:

- Endless Wall Trail: This 2.4-mile trail offers spectacular views of the gorge and is renowned for its unique rock formations.
- Long Point Trail: This moderate hike leads to an overlook that offers breathtaking views of the gorge and the New River below.
- The New River Gorge Bridge: As the longest steel single-span arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere, the New River Gorge Bridge is a must-visit spot. Take in the dramatic views from one of the overlooks or walk across the catwalk.
