Must-Do Experiences in Pigeon Forge

Start your adventure with unforgettable entertainment. The Smoky Mountain Opry will have your toes tapping, while Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede delivers a wildly fun dinner show you’ll be talking about for days.

No guide to Pigeon Forge is complete without a visit to Dollywood. This beloved theme park—created by the legendary Dolly Parton—mixes thrilling rides, heartwarming shows, heritage crafts, and that famous Grist Mill cinnamon bread that keeps fans coming back year after year.

Want even more Dolly? Make a splash at Dollywood’s Splash Country or relax in style at HeartSong Lodge.

Looking for adrenaline? Head to TopJump Trampoline & Extreme Arena for ninja courses, VR fun, trampolines, and an arcade that fires up the kid in all of us. For lighter (but hilarious!) fun, the Hollywood Wax Museum is selfie heaven.

Round out your day with belly laughs at The Comedy Barn Theater or some friendly competition at The Track, where mini-golf and go-karts promise big smiles for every age.

FYI: If you noticed the correlation between Pigeon Forge and Branson, Missouri, attractions, pat yourself on the back. Many of them are owned by Herschend Entertainment Group and occupy much of the landscape in both places. Louisville’s Newport Aquarium and Pink Jeep Tours (multiple locations) are two of their other brands.

Shop, Dine & Play at The Island

When the sun starts to set, make your way to The Island, the sparkling centerpiece of Pigeon Forge nightlife. With 60+ shops, great restaurants, live entertainment, and a gorgeous dancing fountain, it’s the perfect spot to unwind. Besides shopping and people watching, the SkyFly: Soar America (a Soarin’-style flying ride through America’s landscapes) is really fun.

History, Mystery & Unique Attractions

This guide to Pigeon Forge wouldn’t be complete without a few curveballs—this town is full of surprises!

At Alcatraz East, put your detective skills to the test as crime history comes to life. Across the street, the Titanic Museum Attraction lets you walk the Grand Staircase, touch an iceberg, and explore over 400 real artifacts.

For quirky fun, hit Toy Box Mini Golf, where giant toys set the stage for a family-friendly course. Or, if you love a challenge, tackle the immersive escape rooms at The Great Escape Room, with themes like Poker Night, Mountain Top Murders, and The Haunted Hotel.

And don’t forget the Buttonwillow Civil War Theater, a 90-minute stage show steeped in history.

Where to Eat: Pigeon Forge’s Top Bites

Bring your appetite—Pigeon Forge delivers.

Kick off dinner with a show at the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud, where fried chicken, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, soup, corn on the cob, bread, slaw, and dessert are all-you-can-eat. It’s rowdy, delicious, and ridiculously fun.

A classic in any guide to Pigeon Forge, The Old Mill is a must-visit. This historic landmark features:

  • Old Mill Restaurant (comfort food heaven)
  • Charming shops
  • A candy kitchen
  • Creamery
  • Distillery
  • Complimentary wine tastings at Mill Bridge Winery

Be sure to have lunch at The Old Mill Pottery House Café—the quiche is divine, and the outdoor seating offers peaceful views and a cozy, intimate vibe.

More foodie favorites:

  • Bullfish Grill (try the Spicy Shrimp or fall-off-the-bone ribs)
  • Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin (Campfire Skillets for a savory twist)
  • Alamo Steakhouse (oak-grilled, aged steaks)
  • Timberwood Grill (order the Timber Spears & Gold Nuggets)
  • Frizzle Chicken Café (don’t miss the Frizzle Chicken & Waffle!)
  • Local Goat (farm-to-table goodness & an amazing cheese fondue)
  • Hard Rock Cafe (always serving a great burger and loads of rock & roll memorabilia to look at)

And since you’re so close to Sevierville, hop over and explore their dining scene, too—it’s worth it.

Can’t-Miss Attractions

After nearly 20 years away, even I was blown away by how Pigeon Forge has grown. At night, the neon lights practically challenge Las Vegas!

One place you simply must visit is The Incredible Christmas Place, the South’s largest Christmas store. I brought my daughters here decades ago, and we spent hours swooning over ornaments and decor. It’s nostalgic, magical, and truly unique.

Where to Stay in Pigeon Forge

We loved our stay at the Black Fox Lodge Pigeon Forge, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. It’s cozy, stylish, and perfectly located. Wake up to a complimentary hot breakfast, enjoy free Wi-Fi, and don’t miss the fun waterslide at the pool.

Expect rustic-chic vibes, mountain-inspired design, and comfy rooms with balcony views that complete your Smoky Mountain getaway.

But then again, you can never go wrong with a stay at one of the Dollywood properties. HeartSong Lodge was truly a perfect fit for my weekend getaway and gives you park perks that can’t be beat.

Oh my, so many fun things to do with the family! I would love to visit Dollywood (I’ve always been a fan of Dolly Parton), but I think my kids would get a kick out of MagiQuest (they love playing it whenever they visit Great Wolf Lodge).
